I wana try casing for one of my cakes and I was wondering, can you case it with substrate from an unused substrate jar? I have 5 cakes and I wanted to try casing with one of them and I wanted to know if I could use the substrate in an unused substrate jar, because I had extra, or do I have to go out and buy a 50/50 mixture and vermiculite? Please help me out Im a first time grower and Im just learning.

Study other substrates don't waste time on cakes!!!

Do not try to make casing from cakes.... simply shake out them from jars and put in a a terrarium

I find good results with casing cakes. You will want to use more than 1 cake for each casing though. I usually use two cakes, and you want to use the cakes after you dunk them before their first flush. Don't try casing cakes after the first flush, as nothing with grow. I do however, agree that cakes aren't the best substrate and you should research more substrates. As for giving it a try, experiment with it, I recommend doing at least one casing with cakes. And yes, you will want some good casing material. I wouldn't use an unused cake substrate as casing, since its NOT casing. Its substrate. You want your casing to be non-nutritious, so it provides the moisture, and the substrate provides nutrition..

This is a pinset I got from 2 cakes.. Strain is PR. Ended up being 10 grams dry for the 2 casings with 2 cakes each. Not bad for my first casing.

there are many casing teks but i dont think u should use brf/verm(or w/e ur using) for a casing...u can just use plain verm if u want but wont get the best results...im currently experimenting with a 60/40 mix of moister control miracle grow/verm

I don't understand the question. You can case cakes. Dunk the cake, and put it into a ziplock bag.

If you are casing the cake. Crumble it into nickel sized pieces, place it in a tray (shoot for a substrate depth of 2-4").

If you are spawning, crumble the cake into smaller pieces, but not so much that it turns the cake into a paste. Mix this in a tray with whatever you're spawning to (coir, horse manure, etc). Go for a substrate depth of 2-4".

Thanx guys, yeah I know it was a confusing question, what I meant was could I use an unused substrate jar for the casing mix.

Yeah, I thought it was gonna be much more than that as well, but it was all water weight. All good though, very very awesome strain.
