Colonized substrate storage?

Let me ask a hypothetical question: if one were to have some colonized wbs, 4 are fully colonized while 2 are only about halfway done, what should this person do while he/she waits for some hpoo to arrive?
Will they be alright just sitting in the jars waiting for the others to catch up?
I thought they could put them in the fridge like you can with lc to conserve it, but I figured that it might initiate pinning.
Thanks!

According to what I have read, the fridge will delay pinning. Pinning will resume once the cake is removed from the fridge and placed in a FC.
In all my reading on the issue, I think the consensus (thus far) is that you can keep it in a fridge 1-2 days with no loss. 2-9 days with minimal loss and that longer periods lead to more damage to the mycelium.
If you are going to spawn, and do put them in the fridge for longer period...once you remove them... I strongly encourage you to wait a day for them to heat up and recover, before you crumble them..

Oh yah..I've read that you should pull out ac drawer (in the fridge), remove everything from it and clean it good, before you put them into the fridge. Apparently, there are lots of bacteria in the average fridge.

Or, spend $99 and buy a dorm type refrigerator brand new, and never put anything but mycology projects and unopened cans/bottles of beer in it. RR

Exactly

I wish I had room for a beer or two in there
And don't listen to whoever said they won't be any good after a week or so . I've fruited grain masters that have been in the fridge for 3 1/2 months and they performed just as well as fresh spawn used the day it was ready
Don't even worry about cleaning your fridge . A gallon zip lock holds 2 quart jars . Just put them in zip locks and close the bag and place in the fridge . You are slowing down the vegetative growth to the point where it won't even build up any CO2
It basically is in a state of suspended animation and will pick right back up after a day at 70 degrees .

Thanks hippiechick, you always have sound advice.
Now in your picture it looks like the jars are in the freezer, did you just turn the setting all the way down?
And 3 1/2 months is crazy!

You're welcome
That's one of those dorm frdges RR was talking about . It's just sitting at the end of a work table and looks like it's a freezer , lol . I use it for LC's and vacutainer storage . I need a full size fridge to store colonized grains
3 1/2 months isn't really that crazy . What do you think happens to mycelium in the winter ? If it all died , along with the spores , where would next years mushrooms come from . Mishrooms have been around a long , long time . They are quite tough little buggers .
