I believe that might fall under the category of entrapment . He just walked over and asked you to commit a crime . Any lawyer would argue that if the cop hadn't appoached you while pumping your gas , you never would have entered the store to make the purchase .

They can't lie to you, well if he is a decoy that is. They are ALWAYS 19 or 20 years old, in most states (unless they are trying to decoy for gambleing then they are older) you ask him, and he said he was underage. I just got out of an Alcohol Beverage Control class and their decoys 99% of the time will target the business, not try and shoulder tap. He prolly a local drunk and the guy didn't want him around maybe? Anything that happens around their store is all on them.

entrapment is coercing or enticing someone to commit an act they normaly wouldnt, if the man is willing to buy simply because a minor asked, it's not entrapment

incorrect, they can and certainly will lie to you, it's like the myth of cops having to admt they're cops upon request

I believe that might fall under the category of entrapment
it would not. the requirement for an entrapment defense varies, but it generally requires that the police, or those working for them, create a situation where a normally law-abiding person would be unreasonably influenced to commit a crime they otherwise would not. this situation wouldn't apply.
even when police do use entrapment, it's not like you're going to walk into a courtroom, the judge is going to read the criminal complaint, say "this looks like entrapment" and set you free. an entrapment defense is a "positive" defense. the burden of proof is on the defense to show, through a preponderence of evidence, that entrapment has actually been commited. it is usually a last line of defense and is rarely successful.
entrapment laws are intended to protect law abiding people from being pressured by police into commiting crimes they normally wouldn't. if you ever find yourself using an entrapment defense in court, you're in pretty bad shape unless it's really a very clear case of entrapment and the evidence supports it. even then you'll be out money on a lawyer.
also, they can definitely lie.

You just ripped the kid off. Shame on you. You could have at least went in the store and gave his money back.
Didn't you ever drink underage? I would always wait outside and look for someone who looked cool and ask them to get me something. It rarely ever took more than a couple tries and I never got busted or ripped off. Lucky I never ran into you.
