Blue Screen 'O Death..... Unmountable_Boot_Volume error
    #6253312 - 11/06/06 11:54 AM (17 years, 6 months ago)

Alright, my friend gave me a computer to look at/fix.....

It pops up at boot with a blue screen error.

UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME

Then a STOP code of 0xC0000032

This means there is file system damage of some sort.

The recommended fix was boot with the Windows XP boot disk or CD then use the repair feature.

So i did this it allocated and repaired a bunch of shit. Then was able to boot into windows normally again.

The computer was fine for maybe a day or normal booting up.

Now today i get ready to give it back, turn it on, and low and behold that same fucking blue screen error comes up at boot.

Does this mean the harddrive is fucked? or is this still a software issue???

I would say the drive, but who knows.

You might want to try a fresh install before you go running around buying new drives. Take the time it gives you to back important stuff up, and reinstall.

Repairing windows is kinda like telling someone with a broken leg to walk it off.

If you do a chkdsk /r and then a fixboot and the problem happens again, try to find out in safe mode to see what is causing the problem. Run a hijackthis scan and post the log, I usually help others on forums with hijackthis logs.

isnt hijackthis a spyware scanner?

but to recap, yes after running chkdsk /r it will boot into windows, but after shutting down the computer and turning it back on the blue screen is back.

will a hijackthis scan just give up some diagnostic info that would be helpful or are we actually looking for a malicious program that may be causing this problem?

Basically its a snapshot of your registry. If you post your log on a web forum like bleepingcomputer.com
the experts should be able to tell you what registry keys to delete if it is a malicious program. The only problem is it may take a few days to get a response.
