I heard cod liver oil helps with that. I've never used it though. I smelled it once as a kid and almost puked.

I doubt Nova minds me copy and pasting his PM's to me about my thread about my friends daughter.
Quote:
Hello, please read my post first in your thread if you haven't already. You can find ashwangandha at www.mountainroseherbs.com, along with many other teas which can reduce stress and help with sleep. I just grind up the ashwagandha and put it in gel caps, which can also be purchased at MRH. Sometimes I make tea with ashwagandha but it takes more to reach the desired effect. The herbs at www.mountainroseherbs.com are very high quality and are replaced every three months when in season, so everything is fresh and effective.
I'm sure the rhodiola at MRH is good, but I've only used extracts from GNC, which I picked up on a whim. Kanna (sceletium tortuosum) can be found at www.maya-ethnobotanicals.com, which is another powerful adaptogen. Kanna can be a bit intoxicating, so I wouldn't use it as a first choice, but it's very useful for both severe and minor problems conerning the body and mind. Rhodiola and ashwangdha I would not consider intoxicating in the slightest, unless taken in very large doses. Generally adaptogens induce a "more sober than sober" feeling.
I probably left some info out somewhere, if you have any more questions please let me know. I have used many different adaptogens and herbs. I also spend lots of time reading about herbs and nutrition, so I know a thing or two. I'm no professional though so please read about these herbs for yourself if you have time. Hopefully you can help this girl out one way or another.

I usually take 4 00 gel caps stuffed full of ashwagandha daily. I use dried ashwagandha root though, I've never tried an extract so I can't help you there. I wouldn't worry about taking too much ashwagandha, the stuff is very safe, too much would probably just make her a little sleepy. I would probably start with 1 00 gel cap, and maybe try 1.5-2 caps on the weekend to see how she reacts to it. The caps I'm using hold 700-800ish mg.
The rhodiola I use are 340mg pills, standardized to 3% rosavins (10.2mg), I take one pill a day. One pill has a fairly strong effect, greatly reduces anxiety while giving long lasting energy. Two pills has a similiar effect, but more calming. Three pills or more has little effect at all. The dosage curve with rhodiola is a bit strange, taking more seems to lessen the effects. Some people take as little as 100mg, I think 150-250mg would be best to aim for, more should be fine though.
I've seen rhodiola in weight loss pills, so I think it will have the stronger effect in that regard, but both of these herbs should help. They'll reduce stress, leading to eating less. Rhodiola and ashwagandha have been used for treating alcohol and drug addictions with very good results, even after stopping usage, so I think they could help with the habitual eating problem. If you have any more ?s let me know.
The guy at my herbal shop also reccomended me Holy Basil It supports normal cortisol, bloodsugar, and insulin metabolism, protects healthy cells from radiation damage, and elevates spirit.
He said their the best "happy" pills they have in the shop. I took 2 about 1.5 hours ago, and I'm definatly a lot happier feeling, however that may just be the concert I'm going to in 1.5 hours.

Before you spend your money on natural depression-relievers, I would recommend examining your diet, exercise & TV-watching habits.
The typical American lifestyle habits (high-saturated fat, low polyunsaturated-fat, low-fiber diet; sedentary lifestyle; 20+ hours per week of TV) are serious depressants.
Additionally, alcohol is a depressant, and is often used to self-medicate by those who are depressed.
If you do not get at least 15 minutes of sunlight per day, you might consider investing in either some full-spectrum lightbulbs for the livingroom lights in your house or an actual high-wattage lightbox.
I would (and did, when I was seriously depressed) try all of these things before purchasing herbs and supplements. Exercise and diet seem to be the key items for me, your results may vary.

Veritas makes an important point, that a lot of depression and unhappiness is caused by a not so great lifestyle. So check out your lifestyle. Really think about what you do and what you eat everyday, see if they are conducive to happiness. And think seriously, as you'd be surprised how much difference simple changes can make. (Also, I'd add enough sleep into her list).
Meditation can also be very rewarding.
As far as herbs go, herbs are in essentially the same category as Rx's. But the ones that Eraserhead lists are pretty decent.
You may also want to consider a therapeutic dose of MDMA. Everyone is different, of course, but often times 100-120mg of MDMA alone in a natural setting (the desert, the forest, the sea, or even your room) with pen and paper can be very conducive to healing and happiness. You may want to take some time and reflect on the issues and problems in your life and see if you can't solve them or come to peace with them.
Good luck brother!

Meditation.... try doing little things like cleaning up your bed room, or maybe clean it stoned. When you organize shit that you live in, it really helps to straighted out the shit in your mind too, seriously.
I'm gonna get off my lazy ass soon and broil some chicken breasts for work and try going to bed early. It's rewarding as hell to make small little goals all the time. Don't go back on pills. They're the devil.

You can find my old post here.

embarassing as that is I'm the only noob on GOOGLE that mistakes the spelling grammar 'neuro transmitter inhibitor' and sticks 'neurotransmitter reinhibitor' which takes you to my old shroomery post nonetheless.

I cant say enough good about 5tp. I started taking it recently, I didn't even think I needed it, but I feel so much better now. I sleep better, and get to sleep quicker,I eat better, and feel so good when I wake up each morning.
I took Prozac for 6 months when I was younger, got off Prozac, realized, that IMO, SSRI drugs are fucking terrible, and I took no medications. For years, and I felt great then too, but I suppose the 5HTP doesn't hurt. I feel great!
I didn't take St Johns wort off and on, but in general, after stopping Prozac years ago, I haven't taken anything other then 5htp.
SSRI's are SHIT, please do some reading on these poorly studied , unsafe drugs, especially if you are thinking about taking one. IMO they are garbage, and as time passes this will become more and more obvious.
5htp gives you what you need, and lets your body do the rest, there are over 20 kinds of serotonin, and no one knows what Prozac etc, do in the brain, they have some ideas about whats happening, thats it.
Good Luck, try the 5HTP I love 5htp.

1. Omega 3 fish oil supplement. This shit is prozac with no side effects. Get a good one and take it every day. It will make you feel much, much better.
2. Take a b-vitamin tablet every other day. This works great with the omega 3 fish oil.
3. Don't eat processed food. American shit fast food/processed food is MURDER on your brain. Transfats, msg, other bad fats... it is bad for your synapses, bad for your brain.
4. Just try those three, first. I bet you'll feel much better in 2 weeks. If you get ambitious, go for a few jogs, too.
Good luck. PLEASE try fish oil.
