This is my fist try at growing, I am wondering why my shrooms are all coming up skinny and not getting vary big. The veils were breaking when they were only 1.5 inches tall. What you see is Organic Rye cased with vermiculite on the top and bottom. My humidity may have been too high a couple days ago, things look a little better now, but i am not getting any thick stems. ADVISE PLEASE.

How thick was your substrate layer?

Not very thick, thats probably where i screwed up ,.. it was only about 3/4ths of an inch. Do you think that is the problem?

Yeah, its from your substrate thickness...I was going to say thats a normal attribiute for brf/verm, but if you're using rye, its probably a lack of depth. Could also be dry inside, and not being able to suck up the water needed. But that is just a guess.

Yes, you really should have at least two inches of colonized substrate.
