tomorrow i go into traffic court. i was pulled over in sep. for doing something like 48 in a 35. a stationary bike cop with a radar gun got me. i dont plan on fighting the ticket, but if you guys have any suggestions let me know. i decided to go to court because in florida you are only allowed to attend traffic school once every 12 months and i got this ticket about 11months and 3 weeks after my previous one. im just posting to figure out what i should expect, what should i do, what should i know. thanks.

go read the law books,
in most states there is a limit to where and when they can use the radar,
in illinois, legally a cop can only radar within 500 feet past a speed limit sign, unless in a construction zone.
there are odd little laws like that in the books allover the place.
id say get a lawyer, they can usually get you off pretty easy.

lol If it were me I would pay the fine and be done with it. David Allen is right. IMO the lawyer will probably cost you more than what the ticket is worth. My second advice is to watch your speed cause the cops always love easy money!!

Not if you live in Seattle. I got a totally bogus traffic ticket last summer from a King county sheriff who has failed to show up in court twice now. The judge has refused to throw out the charge both times, and simply said "he must be busy today" and rescheduled for me to miss my THIRD day off work to beat a $101 ticket. It's bullshit, but I'm a stubborn bastard and won't pay the fine and be done with it because I didn't deserve the ticket. The cop was pissed that I passed him on a dirt road and he had to eat my dust. But, I was eating HIS dust and he was going ten mph below the speed limit, which was only 35 to begin with. He claimed potholes in the DIRT road made it unsafe to go 35, so wrote me a ticket for 'unsafe speed' for passing him at exactly the speed limit. RR

When got my first speeding one (I was doing 65 in a 35, I was the only one on the road, early morning).I was really lucky the cop could have town my ass in jail. For speeding over 30mph in NC.the cop even reduce it to 58,I was real nice yes sir, no sir.I even turn on my over head light for him.I had to get a lawyer and pay $250 to get off my record. No more then a year later I had two( ihad to go to a four hour class for that one). Get a lawyer if you state lets you have one.All there all doing is making money off you , it not for your or others safety

You guys are fucking nuts thinking you should get a lawyer for a speeding ticket!
I mean come on! It's just a speeding ticket! You can't get a lawyer to even take your case for less than a couple hundred. Just pay it already. You were speeding and you got caught, your only option is to plead guilty and just pay the ticket.

The reason people get a lawyer, so it won't go on your driving record. It really depends on you state to.I had a famliy menber get one in a fed park, you have to go to court on that one.

Who cares? It's just a speeding ticket! If you get one it goes on your record. Big deal... Your insurance shouldn't even go up if you only get a couple a year.
It's like trying to fight a $20 parking ticket. If you even show up you've already lost. I guess if your time isn't worth anything to you then you can afford to waste it fighting something that you're guilty of, but that's really just wasting everyone's time and taxpayer money. On top of that if you're willing to take the stand and lie under oath about something as petty as a speeding ticket then you're real sad sack.
I've had a good handfull of speeding tickets and it's just not worth fighting. You did the crime, just pay the fine. Then consider investing just as much in a radar detector, or just quit speeding if small fines are that big of a deal to you.

If we don't waste our tax payer dollars, they'll just use it to ride around in limos, and pick up hookers... WTF cares.

What! Just a ticket! Anyone who says "to hell with it. It's only 100 buck" has a lot better job than I do. I get paid 12 bucks an hour. So a 100 dollar ticket is a full days worth of work. I have spent the maybe 2 hours in court to get it dropped, and it was easy. This is what you do: when the judge asks you "how do you plead" you say "Not Guilty" Now you may ask Smack I really was speeding and that would be lying. Well not being a lawyer I would disagree. You see in our democracy we are Innocent until PROVEN guilty. A plead of not guilty is lawyer speak for prove it beyond a reasonable doubt. The reason this works is because trials are expensive. They have to pay a judge, a lawyer, a court writer, the cop has to come in which takes him off the street but they still have to pay him. Even if the trial was only going to last for 1 hour they are going to spend hundreds of dollars convicting you. So it is in the courts best interest to let you go. When i did it they sent me to the sheriff who said if i don't get a speeding ticket in the next 6 months they would drop it. I didn't hire a lawyer, i spent no money. It was dropped even my insurance company didn't hear about it. Even if they make you go to trial which they won't, they can't put you on the stand because it would be against your right to not self incriminate. All in all it is pretty fool proof.

And when that doesn't work (like +90% of the time) in most states you'll get charged court costs, and then you'll end up paying an extra $250 on top of the $80-100 ticket.
