Well, it's a little risky but, you could untape one hole on each jar. I hope you have a nice thick verm layer.

If you have already PC'd the jars, there is no reason to worry about the rubber seal being up or down. Leave it alone until the jars have colonized or you will most likely get contamination. Edit: I am assuming you are using pftek with the nail holes or something similiar for air exchange. If not, I would take the rings off and crack the seal so the lids are loose and then put the rings back on loose as well.

If there is a filter disk between the rubber seal and the glass, I'd say you'll be fine. I would get rid of the foil though. It's just to keep the water from dripping from above and seeping into the jars while you're cooking.

hi lapius!, waking up late! suess! yeah take the foil off. you have plenty of protection with verm layer & filters. and you really don't need to pressure cook for one and a half hours. this time is for boiling in a regular pot. if you staerilize for too long you will dry your substrate or significantly change your water ratio. 30 minutes is suffiecient with 1/2 pts and a pc. peace!

while on the subject of tinfoil.... I can remove the tinfoil once in incubator??? do I have to???? I handle my jars atleast once a day and kinda like the tinfoil layer on top.... I didnt tape the holes off and I do have a layer of verm... just thought the tinfoil would prevent water that builds up on the lid of the incubator from dripping onto and in jars and also kinda adds the extra level of security from contams... I have 3 dogs and am a smoker.. so Im always thinking that bacteria is everywhere.... plus ive had a pretty bad cold as of late.... im surprised my jars even colonized without contams considering all the bacteria running round my room... l8r indicaz

lapius...you are being way too paranoid about sterility! if i understand right you have a verm layer, a filter disk, a metal lid, tape over your holes, and tin foil over the whole lid. the verm layer and filter disk are MORE than sufficient. every thing after that, remove. indicaz...you should not have a large quantity of water dripping in your incubator. remove the foil. the build up of co2 levels is what promotes a healthy vegetative stage of growth (colonization). but it also needs a a small supply of fresh air. indicaz...since you are using an incubator you can control the environment directly around your colonizing jars. whenever you go to check your jars, keep it breif and keep a jar oflysol right next to your incubator. before you open the lid, spray lysol in the area and let settle. before you put the lid back on spray a cloud of lysol in the are. and only check your jars after you take a shower or bath or at the very least right after washing your hands. peace!

hey roadkill! nah, he just said he had lots of dogs and stuff in his house. unforunately, i think i am actually getting a little too lax about sterility, last night i innoculated jars with just a alcohol soaked cotton ball and one glove on, on my nightstand.

well really you cant bee too sterile... i always wash my arms down with antibacterial soap first then lysol arms and hands then lysol area/room then lift lid more lysol check jars, lysol area and close lid.... doing all that Im still paranoid. but in the same room my dogs hang out, my computer is here and i smoke trees and ciggs all day.... sooo who knows how things will go. the chamber is nearly airtight, and in regards to where I prepare everything, basically a kitchen counter, cleaned with alcohol/peroxide spray area with lysol, its pretty draft free. I pressure cook and microwave everything. I even have added a little peroxide to the water I add to substrate im so paranoid. Dosent look like the peroxide has hurt anything, still worried about being sterile though always.. Xazia, amazingly I bet thatone gloved jar will do great and mine will rot.. hahahaha l8z indi
