Required reading?
    #6234131 - 11/01/06 07:53 AM (17 years, 5 months ago)

Goodday,

I have been growing mushrooms for about 2 years, i did the pf tek, casings and outdoor growing with 6 strains.

Because i wish to expland my knowledge to a higher level in order to make a better product, i did some searching for books, but nothing really interesting appeared.

So i would like to know, which books are considered required reading for the growing of psyilo's, especially indoor growth.

Sincerely,
Vi

ps i checked the mushroom cultivator, but i am also interested for more recent books and sorts.

Titles of books, I'm not sure... But I would look up ANY book by Paul Stamets. I think he is one of the true MycoGods, and he knows his shit!

Paul's 'The Mushroom Cultivator' is considered the Bible of mushroom growing. It covers many species and teaches mycology and mushroom growing in general instead of 'just' the psilocybes. Some of the information is a bit dated, but nobody has written a better one.

Welcome to the Shroomery my friend... You will find NO BETTER source of help and information anywhere.... I looked.

I just realized most wikipedia entries about shrooms have a link to the shroomery!

I read Stamets' TMC and found it to be geared a little toward high end bulk grows. Informative, but not 100% useful at the level I am participating. I am just getting into bulk grows so I re-read it, and it seems that the info on shroomery.com is much more current and has been modified to suit the experience of most hobbyists with an eye toward availability of supplies and tools that almost anyone can get their hands on. Concepts like Marthas, TiT incubators, homemade gloveboxes, PmP's, etc are what make this hobby available to almost anyone and simplify the process for noobs.

I've also read Stamets' Psilicybin Mushrooms of the World and found to be somewhat West Coast centric. There is much less info on species/strains from the Eastern US. YES, they DO exist!

Both books were interesting reading, but frankly--the info presented on shroomery.com is MUCH more informative and current. This site and the knowledge certainly owe a lot to Stamets and his groundbreaking work. But for currency, and usefulness to the hobbyist--this site simply can't be beat as it builds on the knowledge that Stamets provided and made it accessible to any rather inexperienced noob with some basic gear and modest preparation. Read here extensively before trying anything new and you'll be okay.
