Rhizomorphic Growth

My question concerns the rhizomorphic growth occurring in all of my jars at this time. This is my first grow and my Creeper jars are all displaying what i believe to be rhizomorphic growth. They all have hundreds of thousands of small fibers that appear to be reaching out to other areas of the jars, some of which I've measured at 1 cm long. What I'm having trouble figuring out is how colonized the center of my cakes are. I can clearly see some small vermiculite grains through the areas of growth and its making me think that the majority of the growth is on the outside of the cake. Many of my jars have almost completely colonized the visible sections, and I've been reading that the best way to be sure that your jars fully colonize is to wait 4-5 days after the outside is done. I don't have an incubator set up yet, and the jars are kept in a small room next to a humidifier, which stays around 75-80 degrees. Will 4-5 days be enough to be sure their completely colonized? I'll include pictures as soon as i find the stupid cord to my digi cam. thanks for your help/advice.

4-5 days is plenty for your cakes to colonize the center. i personally give them 2-3 after the surface is colonized

It's always a good idea to wait a few days to a week after full colonization. This isn't so much to ensure the center is colonized as it is to allow the mycelium to consolidate its hold on the substrate. RR

Is this still neccesary if you are going to crumble the cakes and add a casing layer?
Given that the mycelium will take a good while to grow through the casing layer presumably any unfinished colonization on the substrate will get colonized during this period. Just a thought...

No, you always want to birth a 100% colonized cake if you can. What some growers do for casings is crumble it and wait a day to put in the casing layer, so that the mycelium may kind of recover, and grow a little more on the newly exposed areas. That is optional, however. Point is, be patient! It will be worth it in the long run if you give it a few extra days in the jar to fully colonize than birth it prematurely.
Good luck!
Cheers! MU
