cellphone spying

I am curious. Is it possible for a government agency (i.e. NSA) working in conjunction with a cellular provider and/or manufacturer to remotely turn a cellphone on and spy on you via the microphone or camera (record conversations and take snapshots)? Seem technically feasible. Can an individual be tracked by simply carrying the phone on his person GPS-style? Not that I am worried personally, I am simply curious of such a possibility.

It has happened before.
In Cleveland Ohio there was a company known as Northcoast cell.
The feds worked with the strictly local company and ended up getting a shitton of legit busts out of the spying program.
They even had the arrogance to put up a big banner on the Federal building thanking northcoast.......
Northcoast is now known as Revel or Rebel or some such shit phone company.
ill see if i can dig up the article

I dont know about using the camera... but I know they can clone a phone, thus receiving every call you make as you receive it. Basically giving them a copy of your phone.

I've wondered about this myself. Just think, you could have a wireless bug picking up all your conversations right from your pocket!

yeah, there used to be several articles about passive listening on cellphones, where they can hear what you are saying.
take your battery out when you really dont want someone to hear you, or know where you are at.
