    #6224824 - 10/29/06 06:53 PM (17 years, 4 months ago)

I need some help identifying this mushroom i have found in northeast houston. i do not have a picture of it yet because i do not have a camera yet but the cap was brown when i picked it and then when it dried out it turnd a shiny dark gold. i have never seen anything like this before, but i am a beginner at this stuff. the stem is whitesh brown and i believe it is a magical mushroom because the stems are turning blue on some spots. i found this after a few days of rain at a local lake deep in the forest. it was under what i beliave to be an oak tree. it was not in clumps though there was a second one growing from its bottum. it stood 5 inches tall with a hallow stem about 1-2 cm wide. the cap is flat about 2 inches in dia. gills are light brown closly atached. the forest was mostly pines not to many oak though it was under an oak. i will post pictures as soon as i get my camera. please escuse my wording remmebr i am a beginner jsut learning. thank you

Thanks for taking the time to post a decent description. In addition to the information you already posted, make a spore print and post its color here. That will help determining the genus. Also, a good photo would be very helpful, so if you manage to produce one...

Judging by the characteristics you posted, I'm inclined to say that you don't have an active species there, although the supposed bluing does sound interesting. Pics would be nice!
