Monotub: holes taped or polyfilled during incubation?

Right after spawning grain jars to HPoo in a Monotub, should the 8 holes be covered with duct tape or filled with Polyfill? It seems that I have read to do it both ways. If taped, I assume the Polyfill is put in at fruiting time? Can someone please clear this detail up for me.
Thanks.

The holes should be filled with polyfill. After you mix the spawn put the mono-tub in a black trash bag to stop FAE

Polyfill, despite how much I hate the stuff,In a tub situation it is useful,in every other case though I find tyvek and tape a much better choice

During Inccubation you PLUG your holes. You don't want FAE during that time. You have the right idea- keep on track.
I like the trashbag idea, but they are porous, at least the ones I use. I put my 55L tubs inside my 102L tub fits perfect for sleepy time.
When you are 100%; and ready to fruit- thats when you would expose your polyfil/rmemove your plugs and introduce fresh air.

as i wrote the first monotub post i tried it both, covered and uncovered.
as you lay aluminium foil / plastic / anything over the substrate during spawnrun, it wont get much airexchange anyway.
i got the poly plugged in at all times.

Thanks for the replies.
My friend went ahead and laid plastic bag gently over the top of the hpoo/grain substrate; he didn't know he was supposed to do this. Other pictures he has seen show the top of the substrate exposed inside the Monotub. Covering it is the right thing to do, correct?
Since the holes are already taped he will leave them this time since it seems that it doesn't make a big difference and he doesn't want to disturb the tub any more than necessary, and in the future he will use polyfill right from the start.

holes should be taped up for colonization. once the substrate is 100% colonized , you may remove the tape and replace with polyfill to allow gas exchange. no air should be leaving that tub when it colonizing.
