heh, I found this in the woods the other week. It's a pretty funny shroom, since the stem is a lot fatter than the head. Take a peek...

EDIT : Hmm, that image was a bit big. I'll link it instead.

I didn't pick it, so I haven't run any checks on it, but does anyone have any idea what it is?

Probably a bolete of some sort. In fact, Boletus edulis often has stems that are thicker than the cap when young. I would recheck that spot. Did you notice if it had pores instead of gills?

Yep, definitely a bolete. Looks like boletus edulis at first sight, but I'd like to see a clear shot of the top of the stem to verify that suspicion. B. edulis often grows enormously fat stalks and tiny caps, especially when the stalks are infested by worms, which is most likely the case in a specimen this size.
