filter disk over the air intake for a humidifier?
    #621173 - 04/28/02 09:15 AM (21 years, 10 months ago)

does anyone know if placing a magic micron filter disc or other such filter over the air intake for a humidifier causes the humidifier damage? Because i know that sucking air through a filter disc is harder than those filters they provided with the humidifier. Im just worried that by putting one over the air intake it will cause the motor to work too hard and eventually burn out the unit. Does anyone know anything on this? Thanx!

Mine has an additional vent for cooling (on the bottom) other than the humidified air output. The bottom feels warm when operating. Restricting humid air output doesn't limit the cooling air like adding a restrictive filter does. I wouldnt want to restrict air flow into mine because it would surely overheat. You might want to check to see if yours is the same.

I'm also trying to come up with/find a good idea for filtering my humidifiers air input. The local Wally Werld had some Carbon Prefilters for HEPA FIlters on closeout. Folded into 4 layers this might do the trick, very little resistence to airflow.

Instead of putting the filter directly on the input could you put 4, 1 in each corner of a tupperware container big enough for the humidifier to fit in so it doesn't have to work harder to get air input?
Then you could make a filler tube with a cap so you could add water without opening the box  to contams. Bombard it with lysol then let it run for a while to get all the dissinfectant out of the air in the box then hook it to your terranium.

Looks good on paper anyway

On mine the exhausted warm air would warm up the inside of the box... and filling could be fun since it uses a water bottle for a tank, but it might work for his unit.

Thanks
