cobweb on casing?
    #6208852 - 10/24/06 11:03 PM (17 years, 3 months ago)

One pint jar cased with 50/50 tek. Mycellium is growing through layer just fine, but appears to be some cobweb mold on the surface in few spots(real light stringy growth). Is my casing salvageable stiil? I'm thinkin just let the casing grow some more and see if the myc will overrun it..what should I do?

You should wait until you can post a pic . I wouldn't do anything at this point based on your desciption . Never heard it called stringy . Whispy , cottony , like Don Kings hair , but never stringy . That sounds more like some aggresive mycelium growth .

my camera doesn't take quality close ups. To further explain the stringy part, it looks almost like a spider web. Like two lumps of casing layer that are c.lose to gether, there be straightline web like strings making a bridge, with others under and close by

Doesn't sound like cobweb .

Search for pics of cobweb in the Contamination forum .

Well, Just give it a good peroxide misting. Even if its just myc, it wont really hurt it. I always use peroxide in ANY water I use in my bulks, whether its for misting, dunking, etc... If it "disappears" with a blast of peroxide, its cobweb more than likely.

I thought it was bad to mist the surface of a casing especially with myc. growing all over it. Like it stalls the myc. or something. I believe it because i've misted one casing, and the myc seemed like its growth stalled. Also, is it okay to use water with a few drops of bleach in it for the mist bottle? I think I recall reading that somewhere.

Don't use bleach. I asked the same question awhile back and I was told never to use bleach. Use h202(peroxide) if you use anything.

Bleach is some hardcore shit that I only use for soiled whites and the grimiest jars I've let become disastrous (by experimenting). I use varying amounts of h2o2 in spray bottles with distilled water.

Dont use bleach. As far as misting and myc goes, you can mist all through until pinning, even afterwards if done lightly. Peroxide is cheap, and a quick spot-test will tell you what you want to know.

Yea bleach is a bad idea and I agree with hippie chick(As usual)And think you should either try and post a pic or hit up the contamination forum just to make sure it really is cobweb and not just rizo growth
