Hi everyone.
I'm just getting into myco photography, and I've recently been trying to photograph the aparently illusive Amanitas. I found this single specimen after searching a huge area of woodland today. To my newbie eye it looks like a young amanita but I'm not sure (a. pantherina?). When I approached it to get some close up shots, a stone fell to reveal the entire stem and vulva while still in its natural position. I'm very fond of this image and I'm really curious to know exactly what I have found.

Basic Info: Habitat: Woodland, growing beneath oak in mossy ground, near irrigation stream Location: Devon, England Gills: Free, White, moderately dense Stem: White, strong, 1cm diameter, universal veil remnant and vulva Cap: Brown to dark brown, convex, smooth, some veil remnants, 4cm diameter. Spore: Not Available (yet) Bruising: Nothing aparent
Any ideas? Hope you like the image. Thanks

Yeah, that's certainly a nice myco shot! It's a tad unsharp and also a bit overexposed, so next time, consider using a tripod and/or flash unit(s). But this is a very nice pic as it is!

Yeah, thats Amanita pantherina. The only other Amanita you could confuse it with in the UK is Amanita excelsa but the distinct rim around the base of the stem proves it's A. pantherina.
