The cia factbook says this: Religions: Daoist (Taoist), Buddhist, Muslim 2%-3%, Christian 1% (est.) note: officially atheist That's strange , and this is the us: Religions: Protestant 56%, Roman Catholic 28%, Jewish 2%, other 4%, none 10% (1989) Maybe this is why they are always fighting.

from 1949 til the death of mao, any religous types were shot or sent out to the desert for rehabilitation, hard work and a diet of pulped newspaper. temples were trashed. books burned. i visited a temple, in hangzhou, where every buddha statue had had its face smashed off, and there were hundreds of them. about the only religion tolerated was the revering of chairman mao, even now one has to line up for 2-3 hours just to see his mummified body.

Yeah but what's in China or was in Russia has piss all to do with communism. Just like democracy has fuck all to do with America. It's just rule by the elite who sit in their big houses working out ways of ripping off the poor for even more money.

i love you newbies cause you are only begining to understand Uh... you've been here three weeks. What the fuck do you know? Just because you post about 10 times a day (mostly incoherent babble and wannabe mysticism, that you've no doubt ripped off of many different- mostly eastern- philosophers or spiritual leaders) doesn't mean that you AREN'T a newbie yourself.

Communism is a religion, it holds that you shall have no god but the collective (the state) and anything which goes against the collective is wrong.

well, the thing is that communism (at least, Chairman Mao communism) would *like* to be considered a religion by its people. and as usual the brainwashing techniques used are only semi-effective, convincing some people, and causing other people to pretend to be convinced (those who openly defy end up in some deep, deep shit.. invasion of homes, kidnapping, torture, public massacres, stuff like that). china has always been a profoundly "spiritual" country, but their form of spirituality has been centered around buddhism and taoism. historically, they've always had authoritarian governments because of this form of spirituality, that is centered around perfection of one's own inner self. the citizens were taught confucian ideals and strong family values, taught not to question authority and authority would take care of them. when the westerners came around this just threw all of china into an upheaval. they suddeny were not as advanced or powerful as they thought they were. long story short, they adopted an even more oppresive form of communism from russia in the guise of equality for the peasants and the nobles, convinced the youth in the 1950s to rebel against their parents and teachers, killed and imprisoned intellectuals and priests - basically anyone that could provide any sparks of dissent or disharmony, gave lip service to "western democracy" to keep westerners happy and prevent open rebellion while they secured their power, kept their same authoritarian system, this time minus the dangerous religions that would cause people to want to stand up for their freedom and their morals. this is a pretty scrambled explanation, but there's a lot of shit that's happened to china in the past 100 years or so. so, to shorten the short story.. religion is illegal in china because it threatens absolute obedience to the dictatorship, but that doesn't mean people are not secretly religious. it just means they're not suppsed to be and if they get found out they'l be in trouble.

There have been Nestorian Christians in China for centuries (Nestorius the Syrian [died c451] was declared a heretic for his views that in Jesus were two separate natures, divine and human. Non-conformity was a major no-no, and exile, even to China was certainly preferable than death). My lady's step-mother is very church-involved in Nigeria, and recently pointed out a growing number of Christians in China. Now, regardless of what one may feel about his or her 'Christian' upbringing, the Good News regarding Eternal Life and the spiritual reality of the 'inner man" is a TREMENDOUS liberation to the materialistic mind-set of Chinese Communism. Think about the hive-mentality of the Maoist legacy; the absolute hatred of individual freedom, that many Americans take for granted. Take entheogens? Talk about it publically? Discuss the mystico-religious implications of the Psychedelic Experience? It's all illegal man! Severe penalties - torture and death! Do you realize how many Tibetan Buddhist religious and lay people have been murdered by the Chinese? Pray for those who love Freedom above all else.

I almost forget Falun gong, damn, it really sucks to be chinese, if only people would help them get out of that crazy country. It is so difficult though, look at how our ins was just reinstituted with a new program directed by an appointed attorney general. It seems like our government is not caring very much about the chinese people. It seems like our government worships darwinism, more then the bible.
