help with ID

Recently some mushrooms popped up on my front lawn. I know they're not psilocybin, but want to start identifying whatever I find. I did a spore print, the colour is a light brown. The cap has a similar colour, but lighter, and there is black (bruising?) markings on the top from where the cap stretched as it grew out. The clumps of this mushroom were fairly large. One clump had about 20 shrooms packed into a small area, and the stems were quite tough. The stem is about 1.5cm thick and the cap is 6cm. No photos, sorry. What kind of mushrooms would be common on NZ lawns? Also, the lawn is quite dry, and patchy, so I was surprised that anything sprouted up at all. Any ideas? (sorry if the description seems a bit vague)

I'm currently trying to get my webcam working, and trying to find software for it that allows me to take captures using the cam. Then I'll be able to put up a pic.

This is the best quality I could get on my shitty webcam, but you sorta get the idea. The spore print is a wee bit lighter than it looks in the pic.

Hard to say, man.... coupld be a lepiota, maybe an inocybe... Generally, stay away from sporeprints in the roage-rust-brown territory, until you get realy good at it.

Yeah, thought they wouldn't be active. Just curious to see what the hell could grow on my lawn. I'll find a NZ mushroom ID book and see if I can find an exact match. Cheers for the help.

You're right, i didn't think about the spore print color, could be a gymnopilus luteofolius wich is active but those little specs on the cap are not caracteristic of the species. If the stem was white and scally, mostly like te specs on the cap, then it could be Pholiota Terrestris, not active. Second choise is more probable i think. Peace, MAIA
