For those who don't know... Plot your next hunt with Google!
    #6204665 - 10/24/06 01:54 AM (14 years, 6 months ago)

Many probably already know about Google Earth. But for those who dont, I have found that it is an awesome program for bird's eye views of pastures, and adjacent pastures. Plan and plot your route using high-res satellite pics, hiding spots, alternate exits.. really, the software is awesome. And for those who dont like downloading, just use Google Maps, switch it to hybrid and get the same sat pics. Really great views of pastures, and all that good stuff.

Anyways, just passing that along for the few who dont know.

Just search for google earth and/or google maps, Im not gonna advertise a link because i dont want to seem like an advocate for google, I'm just recommending some great software that some of us can put to good use, especially for planning those great hunts!

Lata peeps.. from s.w. louisiana

I tell you what.. i'll zoom in on one of my very own fields, just for an example.. check it out below. Google Earth and Google Maps is both free, and it gives you sat imagary like this......

[edit: removed picture showing coordinates to specific location]

You can zoom in even closer.. Im telling you, for those who dont know, you gotta check it out. It is very helpful for all of my hunts, even as just a general reference to the area.

Hey Jdirty you might wanna remove that picture, I found your patch. :smirk:
(The coordinates at the bottom)

Oh yeah I have a question about Google earth, when I look around particulary in close zoom only the centre of the picture is totally clear, the rest is blurred kinda like its slightly out of focus. Then when you move around the blocks that are in full focus change.

I took print screens of it here...

The line is where the blurr start, here's pics of JDirty's patch with the centre of the screen focused on different areas. Do you guys know? My computers pretty shit so maybe its trying to limit cpu usage or something but it seems a litle weird to me?

JDirty - I was just saying you might wanna remove the picture because the coordinates are there for all to see - I found exactly where it is in Louisiana, and I'm guessing you probably wanna keep your patch a secret!
I fully agree - Google earth is awesome! Some guy posted showing how he looked for mushroom fairy rings in order to see which fieids were good for mushrooms, and you could see the rings quite clearly.

Good eye Feelers. Specific locations where actives grow aren't allowed to be revealed on here.. I went and removed the picture for safety reasons.

Keep in mind this forum and thread is visible to anyone with an internet connection. You don't even have to be a registered member to view this forum.

Never know what might show up at the location.. some kind of law enforcement group, people looking for shrooms, or whatever else.
This is the reason why we don't allow specific locations to be discussed. It is written in the rules already.

Here's another pic from google maps as my other pics got deleted by photobucket.

I found every single Marasmius oreades fairy ring shown in those pics. It would have been very difficult to do so without satellite photography

I used to use this feature for Cubensis hunting back when I lived in Georgia. Sometimes fields can be huge and this helps give you an idea of where you are.
