ceramic space heater possibly drying casings faster?

My bud uses a small ceramic space heater to heat his grow room. Usually the lid is sealed on his FC. but he fans often(every 2 or 3 hours, overkill?) and sometimes he leaves the top of the FC cracked after misting. He told me it seems like the casing layer turns brown(dried peat/verm) awfully quick. Also the casings are starting to pull from the casing container a bit. So have any of you had problems with a space heater drying your casing layer very quickly? Possible solutions? was thinking the wax paper "tek" maybe?
thanks again guys.
Much Love

Should'nt leave FC open for long unattended- but your caseings should never get dry, they need to be moist and glisten- just don't let water pool- it should not be pulling away from the sides yet...

Yeah, when they pull away from the sides, they've gotten too dry.

It's normal for the substrate to pull away from the sides. It's not always from being too dry. The mycelium actually eats the substrate for food, so it gets smaller as time goes on.
If it's too dry in your room, run a cool mist humidifier 24/7 if need be too keep the room air moist. That will make it easier to keep your terrarium at the proper humidity level.
The more air exchange the better, so keep your lid loose after misting just like you are. As long as you have the correct humidity inside the terrarium, you're fine. It's normal to need to mist the casing layer to keep it moist. It's also normal and important for the casing layer to dry out somewhat between mistings. If it stayed wet all the time, your pinsets would suffer. RR
