YOU ALL BETTER VOTE THIS YEAR

People have a lotta nerve to come on here and say this or that about politics, but Jew or Gentile, Muslim or Hindu, Dem or Repub or Independent, no matter what sacrifice you have to make I think you should all vote this year or no more shrooms for you!!!

agreed! its sad because i am the only one of my friends at my college registered to vote that i know and i am the only one who does drugs. also while you all are in the act of voting read up on the candidates voting records if they have held previous office! incumbents tell you lies a lot of the time to get re-elected but their voting records will show you what they actually will do in office.

Voting doesn't do anything for most people, especially if it isn't local. Voting on the national level achieves nothing.

yeah voting on the local level provides more imediate and direct benefits but all elections have local candidates on the ballot. not voting is akin to saying you want the same do nothing government to keep doing nothing becuase you are to apathetic to see if your vote can make a difference. it is that type of mindset that allows corrupt officials to stay in office and slow reforms to nothing if not activelly prevent reforms from happening. thanks for supporting the downfall of america

The United States of America needs to do like Australia and fine every individual that doesn't vote. Instead of $1000, it should be $5000 though.

Bring back literacy tests as well. And if you fail the literacy test, you don't vote and therefore get fined. A backdoor tax on stupidity

A 'voter aptitude' qualification of some sort might not be a bad idea, to verify you have at least a basic understanding of fiscal policy, etc... And if you don't pass, your vote will count for 3/5 of the worth of those capable of making an informed decision.

I don't think voting should be mandatory because that's simply unAmerican. However, we should give everyone the day off to vote. I know a lot of people can't make it to the polls simply cause of time issues. Kids, job, school, whatever.

I totally agree, I know some people think, that voting is a waste of time. But there are millions of people in this world, who would love to have a chance to vote in their Country. Sometimes a few small votes have made the difference.

Another idea would be to schedule elections on July 4th, when patriotism is at an all time high. I don't think we should pay people to vote though.

Plenty of policy is passed every year that seems rather "unAmerican". I believe that if the people that are too lazy, too uninterested, too "unAmerican" to vote had their pocketbook threatened, they'd get off their fast food eating fat asses and help make a change for the better.
And everyone should certainly be entitled to having the day off to vote. I am appalled that the local schools are left open on voting day. All those strangers around the children...it's just not right.

Thank you for your contribution.
Now, unlodge your head from your ass and try not to stick your foot in your mouth while explaining why a test makes no sense, and why you feel voters need not be informed about their political choices.

Thank you. Applying for it in November, and the bloodsuckers at INS are making me pay $400 to fill out an application for citizenship, which on a student salary is a fairly significant amount. Its worth it though ... no one in that institution has anything left of their soul or heart ... but it's worth it.

I disagree. I believed in voting as well, but that was before I realized that a vote in either direction was all the same agenda. I'm one of those people... so I let other people go out and enjoy the song and dance, but all I see now is an elegant system of smoke and mirrors, all pointing to the same, smoke-filled subterranean war-room with generals, senators and big bankers snapping kittens necks and having their way with truckloads of children, living and dead, all while claiming "Do As Thou Wilt!"
but seriously, why waste 4 hours in line, to press a fuckin touchscreen. I've voted many times in the past - even on local issues such as the Florida Railway System, which was approved, then shelved.

There's more than two choices. And if you don't want to stand in line(typical lazy American), look into absentee voting. I voted weeks ago thanks to this.

What did I miss?
"but that was before I realized that a vote in either direction was all the same agenda" "Either direction" seems to indicate there's only two choices, reps/dems. Not true at all. That's what the first part of my response referenced.
Then there was some conspiracy theory style babble, and then:
", why waste 4 hours in line, to press a fuckin touchscreen. I've voted many times in the past - even on local issues such as the Florida Railway System, which was approved, then shelved"
He said he doesn't want to waste 4 hours in line because something he voted for, that passed, was shelved. That's just being a lazy quitter. Not surprising from someone on a drug site though.
Now, what did I miss?

I've never voted, and never will.
Let's see here, you got one guy spending millions of dollars on advertisement calling the other guy a liar, and the other guy spending millions of dollars on advertisement calling that guy a liar. Which liar should I vote for?
No thanks. I don't support corruption. I'm not going to waste my time with politics because before I know it I'll wind up corrupted just like the system. And besides, no matter who's in office the country is heading in the one direction, the wrong direction.

I really feel sorry for all you saps that waste their time on politics and think that voting makes a difference. Try not voting once and see how big a difference that makes, none. Either way, nothing will change.
I would love to see just once an election go by where no one voted. I think if no one voted at all that would make a huge difference.

Even if I shut the TV off, I still know that they wasting millions of dollars which could have been spent on a better cause.
And if no one voted, well I just think that would be hilarious. If no one voted then no one would be in charge.

if they dont' want to vote they don't have to and it is probably better that they don't vote because they would just make a really uninformed vote which is probably worse than no vote at all. the rest of us who are going to vote can do our research and put competant people into office.

I'll be there at the polls come November. And you can damn well be sure I'll be there come November '08, too.

That's why I don't vote. If I was going to vote it would be for a third party, but since there's no chance in hell of one of them being elected I am not going to waste my time.

If we elect the dems it will at least improve world opinion of us for a little while, maybe even a long while...that's worth something isn't it?

That statement would hold as long as the Dems don't do anything stupid like the Repub's seem to like to do.

Not worth a gnat's fart in a hurricane. They will continue to act in their own self interest, whatever it is they perceive it to be. Or maybe, like bin Laden, they will read it as a sign of weakness and press their advantage. Surrender monkeys in power is a bad thing. Not likely to happen either from what I've been hearing.

quite a lot, since my hyperbole of a reply was obviously dissected, yet with a blind eye.
Quote:
Soggy_Donuts said: "but that was before I realized that a vote in either direction was all the same agenda" "Either direction" seems to indicate there's only two choices, reps/dems. Not true at all. That's what the first part of my response referenced.
The word "seems" automatically represents an assumption. Republicans, Democrats, Green Party, whatever.. I am talking about career politicians. It's like comparing Protestants with Catholics and Baptists. Many different perspectives, but only one agenda. Obviously in the context of politics, the "agenda" is to quite literally, "stay the course." That isn't exclusive to the constant state of war, but also to the economy, illegal taxes in place, violations of constitution kept in place, etc.
Quote:
Soggy_Donuts said: Then there was some conspiracy theory style babble, and then:
", why waste 4 hours in line, to press a fuckin touchscreen. I've voted many times in the past - even on local issues such as the Florida Railway System, which was approved, then shelved"
He said he doesn't want to waste 4 hours in line because something he voted for, that passed, was shelved. That's just being a lazy quitter. Not surprising from someone on a drug site though.
kudos for swallowing the hyperbole whole, as the babble was to prove a point, which you quite obviously missed due to that blind eye of yours
You may call that lazy, but I actually voted before I joined the military, then went into the military to help my country and came back out the other end with a much clearer view of how the real world works.
Lazy to me, would be "staying the course," just keep on keepin' on and playing along, just because it's the beaten path, and on top of that somewhat provides many with a feeling connected to the community. Again, this is all smoke and mirrors, for popular vote doesn't even determine the results. I would be more than interested in another view you can provide on Popular Votes vs Electoral College.
That said, even with the system not working for the people... even if it were to work, unless candidates were willing to speak up on the taboo issues of policy (as opposed to the "taboo" of gays, religion, affairs, etc) then you really are just voting for one crook over another.

Might win us some friends in europe
Oh wait, we dont need friends do we, we can just send our military in to kick anyones ass who poses a problem and use the poverty draft to supply the troops. If we run out of money we can just inflate prices some more and give the public more tax cuts to make them think they are getting ahead. One step forward two steps back, it's the republican way.

I don't mean to sound all pessimistic, but why bother?? I mean, what good does it do to vote when all of these hacker-friendly voting machines are in play? Elections in the U.S. are a fucking joke (not that there's anything funny about it!); and even if the elections weren't rigged, we'd just be putting another set of criminals into power anyway!

people who say that voting 3rd party does nothing are wrong. the more votes cast for a 3rd party candidate, the more funding that party gets. so they may not win this election, but it helps in the long run.
and if the united states ever makes it illegal to not vote, that's the day i stop voting. until the law is changed that is. no government should force it's people to do anything, especially vote. victimless crime should not exist.

For me, it was the year 1999. Didn't do a bit of good.

The necessary movement into a truly rational and compassionate civilization would require entirely new systems - not a renovation, but a complete transformation.
