When is hip, too hip?

I think we could all consider ourselves "hip" on some level. My question is, when is someone too hip? Recently, I have found myself playing out music that isnt even to it's peak yet. The Strokes are a good example for me personally. they have yet to reach their career peak and i have heard their cd enough, had so many discussions about them, that they are old news to me. A couple of my friends are really into "new" music. So much so I find it hard to keep up. By the time i get into some of the music they are into, they have moved on. Sometimes it is nerve racking but, we are in a great time for music IMO. Isn't it good to take some time to appreciate good music before you move on?

There isn't any value in music being new. In fact its worse in that the crap of today is here but the crap of yesterday is long gone. And so nevermind listening to the "new" good music. Let time be a quality filter and get into some old stuff.

i used to kind of be like that. it was the type of thing where i wanted to know a band or something that noone else knew about. maybe it was alittle selfish a motive, but it was ok. anytime an underground band i was listening to went 'big' or started to get popular i started looking for another band to listen to.

but i came to the realization that you can't lay off listening to a band just because alot of people like them. as long as they're still true to the music they're the same band.

so i'm better now.
