Green in my first casing...is it toast?
    #6194234 - 10/21/06 01:00 PM (17 years, 5 months ago)

I found a patch of green that is growing under a myc patch on my casing. It is on its first flush, and have quite a few small fruits, and a couple larger ones, but no veil breaking as of yet. Do I harvest the fruits now before it gets worse? The shrooms look great though...are they ok? I need a reply fast as I am leaving for the night and won't be home until tomorrow. TIA!

:repost:

it cannot be saved.
the fruits should be harvested upon maturity,
and the substrate tossed in the trash/yard
immediately thereafter.

Pick the fruits and get that tray out of the growing area tonight. It might recover outdoors if it's still warm where you live, otherwise toss it in the trash.

When a casing contaminates on the first flush, the trich was almost always active in the substrate layer below the casing, so there's nothing you can do.

The fruits will be fine, but you don't want those green spores going everywhere in your house, ruining future projects.

no kidding.

so taking his advice over mine is a good idea.

basic rule:
first sign of green, toss immediately.
why?

to not spread the mold spores throughout the home.
