Is there an excretion that induces pinning?
    #619012 - 04/26/02 01:02 AM (22 years, 10 months ago)

I had three cased trays in a terrarium and none were showing signs of pinning. Then, once one of them took off, the other two followed. I also had three cakes that did basically the same thing. Has anyone else noticed anything like this? In "TMC" Stamets talks a little at the end about using hormones to induce pinning in certain mushroom species. Is this known to occur in Cubensis?

*note* this was posted in mushroom cultivation but I got no response. That post has been deleted.

It kinda makes sense because dont you think the mushrooms would want all their spores to travel the wind together.

i have seen this happen as well, but attributed it to environmental variables at the time.

(all 4 casings were not pinning, so i increased air exchange and rH. a few days later, i had pins in all casings.)

are you sure it wasn't something as simple as that?
it would make sense that if the conditions became optimal for one tray to fruit, that the others would follow thereafter.

well, thats just my opinion a la Occam's razor.

peace,
