spawn to bulk substrate preparations

hi shroomheads, i was guess wondering that sterilization procuders u personally do (pesides pasturization) when moving spawn to a bulk substrate, does the air need to be contaminate free?

As much as possible, yes. I spawn in front of a flowhood because I have one, but you should at least spray the air with oust and wear gloves.

Shit, if you're doing a 1:1 ratio, you don't even have to pasturize, IME. I'm not saying that it is a bad idea, just that it is superfluous when the ratio of spawn to substrate is so balanced. I suppose if you were doing something ridiculous, like 1:50 (1 being spawn), you would want to mix the two together in a laboratory setting.

Never gotten a contam with 1:5 ratio during spawning. But, I was using Rosicrutian superior flying horse poo.

'eh. when i spawned WBS to tenn stud, i just sprayeyd the air, went and washed my hands, came back and did it w/out gloves.

nothing ever happened.

I just did Z's to a 66qt tub last week. I was experimenting with the bare minimum of sterilization.

I held 160f on center of the poo for just 5-10 minutes and let cool. I didn't bother spraying lysol my laundry room (it has the biggest sink in the house), I just closed the window in the room. I didn't wipe down the aluminum foil I used to line the tub.

I did, however, washed my hands with soap and wiped alcohol on a butter knife which I used to loosen the grains in the quart jars. I had a 50/50 solution of water and 3% h2o2 that I sprayed over the spawn once I was done.

I also used a very scant 1:10 ratio of spawn to poo.

Everything is going well so far, I think I will case this weekend.
