so my friend is going to sterilize jars in a pot on the stove. If they are completely sealed while under heat will they bust?

anything on sterilizing on the stovetop would be useful

If you are doing PF jars, each should have 4 inoculation holes.
If you are doing grain jars, each should be fitted with some kind of a filter.

So, if you do either of the above, no, the jar won?t burst if the lid is on tightly.

Might not want to put the jars directly on the bottom of the pan, if they get too hot they can crack. Put a washrag in the bottom of the pot.

or if you dont have holes in the lid for some reason, then loosen the band (i do this for my agar cultures as i am too lazy to find petris)

so if you stove top your agar what ingrediants do you use so that it works with H2O2

Agar also needs to be PC'ed but you can often luck out with just a good long boiling. Agar is best prepared in the microwave. It can be prepared in a pan but it either sticks to the bottom and burns or it boils over. The dissolved agar can then be sterilized by boiling. To make H2O2 agar, you use the normal ingredients but add more agar than usual (about 25 grams/ liter) and sterilize the agar as usual. Let the agar cool somewhat until the container is cool enough to handle and then add the H2O2 while the agar is still liquid. Heat destroys H2O2 so it needs to be added after sterilization.
