Chemistry of McKenna's Invisible Landscape

I've been reading The Invisible Landscape lately--the few chapters I can come close to understanding, anyway. There's a lot of talk about the chemistry/pharmacology of tryptamine drugs in there, and a lot of it, to my uneducated brain, sounds pretty damn far out. There's a lot of talk about how harmine binds to DNA and RNA molecules, you can hear the electron spin resonance of the tryptamines.

I have no background in chemistry, so the drug stuff in this book is greek to me, but it sounds kinda fishy. Dennis McKenna is in fact not a chemist, but a botanist, and Terence, well, he's Terence. So I'm wondering if anyone here has knowledge of chemistry and has read this book. And if so, can you translate/confirm/debunk any of it?

Im going over electron spin in quantum and that makes no sense. I wouldnt bother trying to read books like that and expect science to agree.
