Vic's Cool Mist Leaks All Over the Place
    #618384 - 04/25/02 12:20 PM (22 years, 6 months ago)

I don't have a Vic's cool mist humidifyer setup, but if I did, it would leak all over the place and it would make me mad. It would leak almost all of the water onto the floor after only an hour of operation. I would notice that it is coming from the slit where the two halves of the humidifyer meet and would wonder if there is too much pressure inside because of the blocked hole, even though there is a 1/2" tube coming out of it and running to the terrarium. I would let you know that I didn't drill another hole, i simple put the tube in the original hole and taped around it.I would want to know if anyone else is having this problem and what they have done to fix it.

Man, that's a bumout, mine runs like a champ. I suppose you *could* glue the 2 pieces together and make another hole at the top of the tank for filling.

This poses to problems: A: you need to find a way yo make that hole sealable to keep things clean and B: if you ever have to get the tank off again (cleaning or repair) you'll have to cut all that glue off/out.

or you might consider taking it back to the store and getting a new one. i knew a guy once that burnt out his ultra-sonic in the first three days and took it back and they were happy to give him a new one (well maybe not happy) he just took some lighter fluid and cleaned the tape residue off the top.

Well, looking closer I noticed what appears to be hardened glue from a hot glue gun around the inside rim, keeping the lid from closing all the way. I removed it with a knife and some alcohol, and replaced the lid, but it still leaks. I suppose I will just have to take it back and get another.

Rats!

I didn't take it back. I think my problem was that the clear plastic hose I was using was too small and raised the pressure inside the humidifyer too much. So, I bought another length of tubing and drilled a hole for a second output. Now it works like a charm. The humidity is off the charts of my 20%-60% humidity gauge. (I hope that's good.)

Later.
