dimitri lies to me all the time.
He says he will ship what I ordered off the site.
But when things arrive, there is about 2 times the amout of the product I ordered.
Who is this piece-of-crap? If I order 10 pounds of spawnmate, why ship me 20?!
And he needs to learn simple math too.
since when does "a few filterpatch bags" mean 50?
And a suprise package shows up....I am scared to open it, thinking maybe he shipped me his first-born child....
LOL....

I had a box like dimitri's and packed the thing with polyfil. It never failed me.
Is this a good idea?
I just did it to see if it worked, and i could pack it to the desired flowrate...approximately.

i s'pose for me it would boil down to character...
if i cant respect the character of my vendor, then why would i allow myself to part with money to benefit them?
y'all have to understand one thing... the vendors could give 2 shits about you all... what they DO care about is the few dollars you can contribute to the "padding of their pockets" fund. they send the extra items in hopes that you will become "return business" only to pad their pockets even more. and if they send you extra items, then you'll tell all your friends on here making THEM customers as well (more $ for the vendor)... i mean... how would YOU like making $20,000, $50,000, or $100,000 a year just to send packages to kids such as yourselves?
The moral is: don't kid yourself into thinking the vendors "care" about you, because often that is not the case... it is merely an illusion aimed at getting you and your friends to generate more money for them.
i s'pose i look at things WAY too logically (scares me sometimes)
provactively honest,

Now thats funny.
You have obviously not been around for long.
So you have hung out w/ Ralph, Hawke,Stamets, or Corbin?
Did they make YOU buy dinner?
A vendor is a vendor. They dont "vend" for nothing.
Grow up and learn to deal with your real problems in life instead of venting your "prozac exhaust" here.

you got it.
vendors "vend" for money.
they send free products so i will tell friends.
but they still have wild ideas that loose money.
i can only hope they make money somehow. ...

I too am held up in the mountains...
my goal is at least to open a couple peoples' eyes to the big picture... even if my honesty causes one person to step back and take a look at the grand scheme of things and what is *REALLY* going on, then i can walk away happy
i dont mean to sound harsh, although at times it comes across that way. my thing has always been honesty, and sometimes being too honest has gotten me into trouble so it's all good

id actually hope that people could keep this on topic- if it gets locked, no one will be able to see or respond to many of the constructive comments about flowhoods posted here (but have not as to yet been addressed by the vendor). camel and others, i hope you know i mean no disrespect, but i think the topic of these hoods is interesting, and there is much more to be said thats interesting/debatable/questionable about the subject of these hoods rather than the infighting about other topics. ((put another way- argue about the hood, so the criticisms/questions about it dont get lost when it gets locked by a mod)).
to keep it back on topic:
feito, packing your "hood" with polyfil will of course slow the rate of air from your dayton. but, the purpose of the HEPAs is not to slow or control the airflow, but instead to trap the micron-sized contaminates which flow from the air before they reach your open-air work. HEPAs work as they are many many layers of material, "layered" together and physically reinforced to properly direct airflow (in an even and straight manner). polyfil does not offer the same sort of protections as a HEPA does, or its construction in directing flow- HEPAs screen down to .1-.3 microns, enough to catch possible contaminates while still allowing active airflow to blow away any possible settling that happens outside the hood and on top of culturing. and yes, it may be way less expensive to use polyfil, but if expense is a concern, a properly built glovebox can be come by for much less (and be more effective than a "hood" with improper filtration). incidentally, the dayton/fan/blower itself would cost more than the entire glovebox to put together (unless you have a hookup thru non-retail means, blowers of a good size run about 80, while decent and various gloveboxes can be had for way less).
since there has been little conversation in general about proper creation of hoods, and maybe someone besides me has to be interested in the creation of a hood (or what goes into creating a proper hood for open air work), id like to offer up a few humble suggestions on where to start if youre interested in them... a very good starting point to learn about building a laminar flow hood can be found in TMC, p 347- (available from the shroomery bookstore, see anno's sig for a link). the forest floor also has quite a few good links and resources for building a hood in their "archives" section, along with personal creations by those who ahve come before. also, flowhoods are not just used by mycologists- orchid hobbiests utilize them as well (and often have online links to look at their homemade creations). fungi.com also has them, but quite expensive! (stamets has to make some money, right?)
for anyone interested, heres the proper calculation for fan cfm to square footage of HEPA (from TMC, pp 350):
"...[T]he resistance of all micron filters are measured in inches of static pressure of a certain air speed. A standard resistance for a micron filter of this type is .75-1.00 inches of static pressure. Because extended surface filters have a high initial resistance, the housing must tightly hold the HEPA filter so that impure air is not sucked into the exiting airstream.
"To calculate the correct fan/filter combination, take the net cfm of the fan at the filter's rated level of resistance and divide that number by the square footage of the filter face. Ideally, that number will be 100 feet per minute, the optimum range for air velocity in laminar flow systems. An example will more clearly illustrate this basic principle.
"IF a micron filter measures 2 feet long by 2 feet high and 6 inches deep and has a static pressure rating of 1.0 inches of resistance, the fan required would have to be capable of pushing 400 cfm at 1 inch of static pressure.
"IF X = the desired net cfm of a fan at 1" s.p. and
Y = 4 square feet (the square footage of the filter face)
THEN X = 100 feet per minute x Y
X = 100 feet per minute x 4 square feet
X = 400 cubic feet per minute..."
Paul Stamets, J.S. Chilton, ? 1983.
((maybe someone could tell me now if my calcs were wrong above?))

I've read many of your posts here over the last year and my impression of you as a vendor is not a good one. I'm sure I'm not the only one with this impression. There are many reasons for this, no point in going into those. I will say that it does come down to character.
As far as who needs to go away, I 'm not at all sure that your kind is needed here. You seem to have found a niche here and have many admirers. It's funny to me how shit like that works.

I find it funny that the only people to ever whine or complain are none customers.
And they do not whine about something that is even worth whining about.
I could really give a shit what your opinion is.
EVERY customer and or person who I have done business with has benn happy with it.
Now I ask that you leave my thread.
