NEW FILTER DISC TEK!!!!

A FOAF is thinking about trying out a new syn. filter disc tek which he (or she) thinks will seriously cut down on contaminates. I thought I'd send you her (or his) idea to see what yall think...
(s)he thinks if you punched a 1/4 inch hole through two lids in the same spot, and then punched a nail hole (for innoculation) through the two lids, and both sets of holes lined up on the 2 lids, you could sandwitch a filter disc between the two lids and screw the whole rig down on a jar... When you innoculate, do it through the filter, and put some tape down on top of the innoc hole, but since both metal lids are in contact with the filter disc, you wouldn't have to worry about contams sneaking through the ventilation hole and around to the innoc. hole... Any questions, comments, sugestions, or worrys, please post!!! Specifically, please voice any concerns about the durability of filter discs used in this setup (I think (s)he is using mycosupply brand discs...)
One other thing, does anyone out there use tinfoil in the process of sterilizing a syn. filter disc jar? I've heard a thing or two, but my FOAF doesn't ever use foil in the process. If anyone knows a great deal about this, it would be very usefull to me.

You would be just fine putting a filter disc on the mouth of the jar then cover with a lid turned up with a single hole in the middle then banded would work just fine. This is the method I use and it works all the time. You can use tyvek for a filter instead of buying the discs. Thge USPS has them on their website for free (of course they are to be used for Priority shipping only)I use the bands of widemouths to trace circles to cut out into discs. works great for both size jars. Also I recommend putting foil over the jars when PCed to keep extra moisture out and to serve as a dust cap till I get around to shooting them.

Thanx for the imput, this is the tek my foaf usually uses, but I guess (s)he is getting sick of lifting the lid to innoculate. (S)he is kinda worried about just innoculating through the filter disc for fear contams will find the hole and fuck up the whole jar. So I guess the question would be 1)do you think this would be a viable technique to use for someone who is overly paranoid about contam. and 2)do you think using this tek would in any way impact the usable life of the filter disc.
If anyone would send me info on the tyvek stuff, best way to use ect, my foaf would certainly appreciate it...

just lay tyvek over the jar and screw it down with the ring, noc through the tyvek and cover with a band aid. it works excellent, and the tyvek is free from the post office. Do a search for tyvek, it has been explained many a time.

coffee filter, compressed polyfill, coffee filter.
then lid.
Best filter ever, never get contams through it, and i would be hard pressed to ever even try anything else.
Try them yourself and tell me if you like it?

i make squares bigger than the mout so i have excess tyvek coming out of the sides after they are screwed down and then cut off the excess. i just feel that it is a good measure to take, and the shit is free so fuck it.

Use tyvek held on by the band over the lid with the premade holes in it. Use a band aid to cover the inoc hole (I know it sounds weird but they come steril )

Do you just puncture the tyvek with the needle?

I do, then just put a little bit of sticky tape over the hole.

i use a double dome lid system.
i take 2 lids and punch 4 holes {1/4 inch} in one of them and one hole in the top one {needle size} all at the same spot on the edge of the lids. this way ii can loosen the band turn the top single hole to one of the bottom lid holes and innoc, turn the top hole to the next hole and innoc. after innocing all i turn the top hole so it doesnt have a hole under it sealing the top of the lid so no h9oles are exposed. placing a filter under both lids makes it almost impossible to contam.
a little more work but well worth it.
