Whoohoo I'm on the road to success

Well.. I've already failed like 4 times for various reasons.. but I have learned from my mistakes! So one of the major problems I had was having the DRY verm layer soaked after I pressure cooked it. Well I did another batch yesterday.. and I used serame(sp?) wrap and tinfoil over the tops of the jars.. didn't work. So I scrapped off the wet verm.. replaced it with dry verm.. taped the holes like 4 times with diff tapes.. but all but one of them came off when exposed to water. So I did the jars up with tape.. put tinfoil overtop of them.. and pressure cooked em for another hour. The jars aren't perfect.. they have probably been cooked to long, and my measurements weren't great when I made the jars.. BUT I THINK I'LL GET A FEW JARS! Whoo! It's been like 8 months since I started this past time.. I never gave up, and kept pooring more and more money into it.. But finally I hope to have something to show for it. I just really hope this works!
Even if I fuck it up casing.. or with cakes.. at least I figured out how to remedy my problem. The thing is.. when your verm layer is wet it attracts contams.
I guess I'm a excited a little early, heh.. but if I could get one trip all of the money and hassle I have went through would be worth it in my book. Man.. I have bags of verm, peat, and perlite stockpiled in my room. Not to mention the pressure cooker, jars, coir, containers, heating devices, even pH testers I have bought!
All other ppl who are unsucessful, don't give up.. and don't fuck around with your jars like I have in the past.. I'm not very good at following instructions I always find myself tinkering. I just gotta play with my babies.
This summer is gunna fucking rock!
Much love to ya all y0.

mabye u should read more growing faqs..
i had a successfull harvest my first time... i read like 10 different faqs...
ur not supposed to use wet verm its supposed to be dry to protect the substrate from contams... and thats why ur tape fell off because ur verm was wet... u dont even need to tape it.. just put another layer of tin foil over it and rubber band it...
you cant cook your jars for too long... you could cook them for 3 hours and theyd be fine... probably even better.... all the cooking is doing is steralizing...
anyways i hope it actually works for u.. u seem like uve been thro a lot and you have all those materials...

I agree with Roadkill !
Where did you find ten different FAQs? Or do you mean
ten different questions?
The verm layer prohibits contams because it has no nutritional
value, not because it's dry.
Your tape fell off because your verm was wet? Dry verm
isn't going to be in a jar of damp substrate long before it
shares the moisture. Taking damp verm out and adding dry
will throw off your moisture content.
You don't even need tape? debatable, IMHO i disagree but
agree it could work without it. but freezer tape
won't fall off when it get's wet. Unless it's just a shit brand
or something.
Cooking for three hours will definately throw off your
moisture content.
But good luck to both of you. (No flame intended)

Good for you!!!
i have tried in the past to get many of my friends to try growing their own, but at the first sign of adversity the just dropped it all.
i admire your zeal and i your right your first successful batch will make you so proud you'll probably name 'em, take baby pic's of 'em and honor them with a moment of silence afterward. LOL
Good luck man!

I'd honor them with a chomp in the face! Yeah the first time I grew I had 8 jars, and only 1 cake survived. All the others stopped growing at like 3%, when I opened them up they smelled like nasty fruit (A bacteria contam I guess). Anyways that one cake that survived produced a couple dry grams and after my first trip I knew I was hooked! Congrats, I hope they survive to fruiting. If they don't, you may want to try those bags from micon magick or whatever the company is, they look like an idiot proof (Don't take that personally, I wish they'd existed when I started growing!) way to get results. But I guess this way you're getting a lot of skill that will transfer over to prepairing casings, etc.
