CONTAMINATION RISK?
    #617535 - 04/24/02 04:04 PM (21 years, 5 months ago)

SORRY BUT FOR SOME REASON I CAN'T SEEM TO TYPE WITHOUT YELLING.

IT HAS RECENTLY COME TO MY ATTENTION, THRU THE OBSERVATION OF LEGAL MYCELIA CULTURES THAT THE CAKE PULLS AWAY FROM THE SIDES AS THE MIDDLE IS COLONIZING. AFTER IT PULLS AWAY, IT COLONIZES LITTLE SPECKS OR BRF THAT IT COULDN'T COLONIZE BECUASE IT WAS PRESSING AGAINST THE GLASS. HOWEVER, THE BOTTOMS OF THESE JARS DID NOT PULL AWAY, AND IT HAS UNCOLONIZED PARTS PRESSING ON THE GLASS THAT WILL BE EXPOSED WHEN BIRTHED. IN AN UNSTERILE ENVIORNMENT, THESE SPOTS COULD BE USED AS A STARTING POINT FOR CONTAMS TO TAKE OVER THE JAR. HOWEVER, WOULD TURNING THE CAKED UPSIDE DOWN WHILE IT WAS STILL IN THE JAR, ALLOWING THE CULTURE TO GET AT THE SPOTS THAT WERE PREVIOUSLY UNCOLONIZED AND THEN COLONIZING THEM. DOES THIS MAKE SENSE TO ANY OF YOU?

Howdy, Hermit,
Make sure the lid to the jar is on pretty tight. Turn it ('it' being the jar of course) upside down and pound it once or twice in the palm of the opposite hand (unless you have more than two hands....then you can use any combination you want..... but this is How us "NORMAL" people do it..... uggh....you freak)
Anyways, do this which allows the cake to come away from the base, then loosen the lid a little while keeping it in the upside down position......(and don't turn it up.... you multi-handed freak) This will allow for a bit of gas exchange..... this is what my "mullet-toupet-with-a-mind-of-its-own" did for my B+ and they have started to bottom-colonize..... (of course that was only using two hands.... god only knows how many YOU have...... FREAK)
Just incubate the rest of the way upside down until the bottom has colonized.

PEACE
Paco

P.S. Don't be spreading it around that you're a freak with lots of fucking limbs and hands and appendages... I don't know if everyone will take it as lightly as I have..

Yes flipping the jars works great.
I also think flipping your keyboard might help. Using your
thumbs, hold down both the shift keys, then lift the keyboard
over your head and shake the shit out of it. The reason I say
this is because I had similar problems and something was
lodged under there keeping my shift key on. Or just check your
"Caps Lock" button.
Hope that helps.

And he shouldn't have any problem with that..... the multi-handed freak.....
uggh.... dastardly creation of humanity.......... maybe it was his third hand (or fourth for all we normal people know) that was hitting the shift key...... It sickens me..... DEFECT!!

lolz   Peace... I'm just being a tar-tar

Love, Peace, and thigh grease,
Paco
