It needs to be grown out enough so when swirl the culture, there's enough mycelium broken up after the swirling to be able to suck up plenty in a syringe for use. This one's too far along really.

Don't have any pics but the lc will be finished in, usually 10 days or so. Some will finish in as little as 7 and some will take as long as 14. The lc should be moderately colonized. After the mycelium settles to the bottom mine usually take up about half or a little more of the total lc and upon shaking the mycelium is evenly distributed throughout. As long as you can suck up mycelium without actually having to direct you needle at a clump you should be good to go.

Thats what mine looks like when I swirl it but not as thick as that, and mine does not look as stringy as that. Could it be the strain?

It's the genus, not the strain. This is an Oyster culture, the one above it that's super knotted is a cubensis strain.

I like to incubate nearly all genera of mushroom cultures at 80 degrees. With the exception of cultures that prefer lower temperatures.

if your room temp is between 75 to 80f, that should be fine.
lots of people incubate at room temps.

No, no. You don't have to incubate them. Room temperatures are fine. I just prefer to, but it's certainly not required.
