Amazonian growth developments
    #617326 - 04/24/02 02:02 PM (15 years, 6 months ago)

Here's what I used:
.5 pint jars with brf and verm
standard MMGG
terrarium with perlite

When I started I got a spore syringe from a company in New York. I innoculated and waited, and waited. Then after one week I started to see growth. Two jars contaiminated within the next week ( out of nine). I believe the containmination was due to a poor substrate mix. After one month and three days I birthed my first cake. Under advise from this forum, I left it as a cake in the terr.
After three more days I birthed the second jar. I decided to case this one with vermiculite; just one cake in a small plastic tupperware container. Since I cased this one, I broke off a piece of good ryzimorphic growth and cloned this into two new jars. That was a great idea. These two jars have almost completely colonized in 14 days as apposed to a month. I have since birthed a few more and cloned even more.
In the terr. the cake is still doing nothing after 12 days. The cased cake is forming primordia now quickly. I believe I will see actual fruits within a week.
I am looking to start some EQs soon too.
I was wondering about others experience with Amazonians- growing and effects. Specifically, have others had such slow growth. Also, I have read that some people believe this strain to be relatively potent. Anyone else had any experience with this?

Well Ive headr the Amazoinans grow quite quick. You're temperatures might have not been optimum during the process?

Thats cool that you took the mycelium from the brf/verm cake and put it into another one, Im glad you didnt get contam. Ive actually never heard of doing that actually, nor have I even thought about it. I always think that its only grain to grain or agar to grain...never cake to cake!

Tell us how it works out. Yeah im sure they are colonizing much faster than from a spore innoculation.

Once you start seeing little knots in you casing, they are kinda hard to see, but you'll see em, then you'll probably see pins in the next few days . THEN within the 3 days after they'll probably be mature.

Good luck..

Angryshroom,

As for the temp- I tried my best to keep it at about 80, but it is hard in a little apartment. Yeah, that mycelium transfer was great, although I contacted Mr. G and he advised not to use any spores from these clones. But I still will have colonization in less time. If you want to know exactly how I did it let me know. And I will also post again when i see further developments.

Well I have pins now on my cased cake. Still nothing happening on the regular PF cake so I tried scratching it and giving it a little moisture to see what happens. Probably because ambient humidity is about 10% here usually. The pins are a little uneven and two are a bit bigger than the others but I am just glad to see progress. I hope to have some fruits in a week. Anyone out there had experience with the potentcy of Amazons? just a little curious. peace!

cool chronic! Like I said I got pins about three days ago and now i have a few growing- one seems to be growing faster than the rest but that damn cake isnt doing a thing. I will always case from now on. I am hoping that by nest weekend I will be able to report potency. GOOD LUCK!

Yes! I harvested this past weekend and so far got about 40 grams! It is great. The cake finally looks better- i kept spraying it to give it some moisture and it is starting to pin. I am starting to see the second flush from the cased cake.

On tues. my fish tried 15 grams wet- definite geometric patterns in the sky and bright ass colors. No body drag like some people complain of. Is this potent?? anyone?

If you ever have trouble pinning your cakes, try cold shocking them in the fridge over night, it really gets your point across to the mycellium that you want it to fruit!

Are you sterilizing the water that you use to spray the cakes?

Hmm. I grew amazons a few years back. And yes, they are rather potent little devils. I think I got the spores from spore chicks, although my memory seems to fail me yet again. If I remember correctly, they took about a week to show signs of mycelial growth, but took off from there.

i have read that Amazonian are partiuclar hard to get to pin and require cold shocking.

I know that in fact they do not REQUIRe cold shcoking but i have never had particulary good pinning with them.

Can't really comparethe potency to other strains, as it does have alot to do with how well you grow them, plus i haven't had alot of other strains, but i would not say they are super strong, merely average to slightly stronger than average.
