ufc 64 is over, time to talk about the next one. this is the best card for a UFC event in a looong time. a bunch of fights im really looking forward to. im especially eager to see bradon vera fight again, i think this kid is bound for a title shot if he beats mir. the hughes st pierre fight is going to go down in history i think. its bound to be a war. i hope my man GSP beats that bible banging hillbilly hughes. my picks:
Welterweight Championship bout: Matt Hughes vs. Georges St. Pierre -- St Pierre by KO Heavyweight Championship bout: Tim Sylvia vs. Jeff Monson -- Sylvia by KO Heavyweight bout: Brandon Vera vs. Frank Mir -- Vera by KO Lightweight bout: Joe Stevenson vs. Mark Hominick -- Stevenson by submission Light Heavyweight bout: Michael Bisping vs. James Irvin -- bisping Welterweight bout: Nick Diaz vs. Graison Tibau --- diaz by tko Welterweight bout: Karo Parysian vs. Jake Shields -- parysian by ko

This is the event of the year in my opinion (Since Liddell isn't fighting Silva anyway) and I've been looking forwad to it.
Welterweight Championship bout: Matt Hughes vs. Georges St. Pierre -- St Pierre by rear naked choke, 2nd round Heavyweight Championship bout: Tim Sylvia vs. Jeff Monson -- Sylvia by TKO, 3rd round Heavyweight bout: Brandon Vera vs. Frank Mir -- Vera by KO, 1st round Lightweight bout: Joe Stevenson vs. Mark Hominick -- Hominick by submission Light Heavyweight bout: Michael Bisping vs. James Irvin -- Bisping Welterweight bout: Nick Diaz vs. Graison Tibau --- Diaz by submission Welterweight bout: Karo Parysian vs. Jake Shields -- Parysian by TKO
So the only fight I disagree with you on is the Mark Hominick vs Joe Stevenson, I've seen them both fight Yves Edwards (actually I think that's the only fight I've seen from each of them) and I think Hominick has a future here.

Hell yeah thats a good card. Karo, Vera, and the return of Nick Diaz, add that to the Hughes/GSP rematch and the 6'8 Sylvia taking on the 5'9 Monson...thats an excellent fucking card man I can't wait.

Vera is relatively new in UFC, but he definatly is an amazing fighter. He's already taken down a previous #1 contender in Justin Eilers (easily) and if he beats the former champ Mir, he definatly should earn himself a shot. I don't think at this point in his career he'd be able to beat Sylvia, but it's still a fight I'd love to see.
Personally I think Vera ought to drop down to Light Heavyweight, as he's a pretty small heavyweight and would be very good at Light Heavy.

Right, he knocked out Arlovsky twice and he's overrated
Granted, if he wasn't 6'8 with a huge reach he wouldn't be so much to recon with, but he is. The guy is amazingly accurate with his hands, and he can hit people long before they can hit him. His kicks are vicious as well, just ask Tre Telligman.

dude he knocked out andre because he is also highly overrated. you have to understand the UFC hypes these fighters because its the best they have. mir beat sylvia in like 60 seconds with an armbar. the heavyweights in the UFC fucking blow. sylvia would be chewed up and spit out by most of the pride guys. fedor and crocop are lightyears ahead of sylvia in skill. sylvia needs to face some decent talent an then i'll respect him

*Broke his arm but Sylvia STILL wanted to fight. That takes heart man.
Arlovsky's overrated too huh? Alright, now I just know to ignore your opinions I'm joking, and honestly I'm well aware that Fedor or Crocop could beat Sylvia. Sylvia could also beat either of them though, that's the beauty of the fight. One punch can take down the best champion. Sylvia has that one punch.

Anybody wanna bet on whether or not Mir shows up in shape? Damn man he was crazy out of shape in his last UFC fight a couple of months back. Rockin the serious beer gut. It's too bad too because he's actually a decent HW fighter (which the UFC desperately needs) when he's in shape.

I agree with KOTT it's been one of the first loaded undercards the UFC's had in a very long time.
Too bad UFC's heavyweight division is such a crappy heap of second-rate fighters.

I love how you guys all have your "I know what fighters are the best and who can beat who no matter what" kind of attitude. You guys are the fun ones when I'm actually watching the fights.
Fact is, Sylvia is the numebr 5 ranked heavyweight in the world, and it's not like he beat up a bunch of handicapped koala bears or something. He's been fighting for some time now, and he's earned all he has. You guys ASSUME that random Pride fighters could beat him, and hey maybe they could, but YOU don't fight and YOU don't know that. It's sad you're trying to take credit away from one of the best fighters in the world, but hey, somethings got to make you feel special right?

It's called actually watching the fights outside of just the UFC. You clearly only follow the UFC because that's all you seem to know about.
I haven't missed a UFC or Pride event on ppv since 2002. And yes, the kick was ass-ugly. And it was against a crappy opponent. Did you know this? clearly not.

Right, Tre Telligman is just some nobody who stepped in because someone better called in sick
Give me a break. I've seen Pride, I've seen UFC, I've seen completely unsanctioned professional fights.
You think you've watched more fighting than me? Fantastic. You're obviously ALWAYS right because you've seen EVERY event since 2002. Because professional fighting began in 2002 you must be right.
I'm not saying there's not better fighters out there. I'm saying don't belittle a professional athlete in better shape and better at his sport than you will ever be at anything in your life. What gives you the right to say that the #5 ranked Heavyweight in the world isn't any good?
Tell you what, step in the ring with the lowest ranked Leightweight in the UFC and see how you do.

actually, he WAS a last minute replacement for Assuerio Silva, who had injured himself during training. You didn't know this.

you don't have to be a baseball player to know the Detroit Lions are better than the Colorado Rockies.
Same with MMA. You simply said "I assume" certain fighters are better than others, and that you, on the other hand, actually WATCH the fights.
So basically you were initially implying I hadn't seen anything. That's why I pointed out that i've seen a hell of alot more fights and events than you, dimwit.
Pay attention to what you post.
You probably didn't even know that was the first high kick Sylvia's thrown in a professional fight since his days at SuperBrawl. Yet you assume "oh yeah, Tim sylvia's got vicious head kicks" based on ONE EXAMPLE.
Which was why i was initially pointing out how it was a BAD EXAMPLE. Because it was a bad example. It was a sloppy ass kick. People who never train in MMA and only do muay thai or TKD can throw technically better kicks. And yes, Tre Telligman is a lousey fighter. I'm sure he can kick my ass, but so can most people. Tre has lost 4 of his last 5 fights. His last win was in 2001. He hadn't fought professionally since 2003 before stepping into the octagon.
AND BELIEVE IT OR NOT HE WAS A LAST MINUTE REPLACEMENT.

Well, since you're going to turn my words around and put words in my mouth, (even when I'm right you say I don't know I'm right) this argument is like pounding my head against a brick wall. I may be right, but my head will still hurt and it's getting nothing accomplished.
I bow to you, oh emporer of fighting knowledge
"You probably didn't even know that was the first high kick Sylvia's thrown in a professional fight since his days at SuperBrawl."
Funny, he threw several before the one that knocked Telligman out, and several in the next fight against.... Dan? Somethingorother, I don't remember right now.
Sorry, I forgot facts don't work, I'm done.

what the hell are you talking about.
facts are different from you just talking out of your ass.
His next fight was against Assuerio, and he didn't throw a single high kick in that fight either. It went the distance, and Tim Sylvia ended up shitting his pants during that fight, believe it or not. low kicks and middle kicks are different than high kicks. Trippy, huh?

By the way my boy Crocop is taking down Fedor. I can feel it.
HEAVYWEIGHT DIVISION (over 205 pounds)
#1 Heavyweight Fighter in the World: Fedor Emelianenko 2. Mirko Cro Cop 3. Josh Barnett 4. Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira 5. Tim Sylvia 6. Andrei Arlovski
And personally I think Sylvia could give Barnett or Nogueira a good fight if not beat one or both of them. Of course I'm wrong because you guys are way more old school than me (In your own minds)

At this point I would tend to agree with you. As of a few months ago I definatly would have put him near the top. He was unreal there for a little while.
Now they're going to have him fighting Marcio Cruz
Arlovsky could have been successful fighting anywhere. He was very young when he first started fighting professionally, and he looked damn good doing it. Watching him fight Pedro Rizzo was incredible considering he was 23 at the time, even if he did get knocked out at the end.

That's because he fought against undersized competition, Freeman, Mutseyenko, cabbage who really has no place in the UFC. And he defended his title against Eilers who was coming off of a KO loss, and Buentello, who spent the majority of his career fighting lower echelon competition at KOTC.
Most people knew Arlovski was one of the most overrated fighters before he event got his title shot. He was a big fish in a little pond.
Once ricco, rizzo, barnett, and couture all left the HW division, the level of competition turned to crap.
Noob. Is it really that hard admitting you're new to the sport?

My picks for winners:
Welterweight Championship bout: Hughes vs. G.S.P -- Hughes by KO.
Heavyweight Championship bout: Sylvia vs. Monson -- Sylvia by KO
Vera vs. Mir -- Vera by TKO, (But i would love to see a submission)
Stevenson vs. Hominick -- Stevenson by submission
Bisping vs. Irvin -- Bisping BY KO
Diaz vs. Tibau --- Diaz by Submisson
Parysian vs.Shields -- parysian by KO
I don;t think ether title is changing hands..
GSP is a good fighter, but he has to beat Hughes for the title, and no matter what you think of Matt Hughes that is not an easy task. I think GSP is going to get beat.
Monson if he was at least 4 or 5 inches taller would beat Tim Syliva without a doubt. The man is very talented, but he fighting a mountain that has a good punch, and again Monson has to beat Syliva fort the title.. But hey i wish Monson the best of luck, and think that would be cool as fuck if the little guy beat the big guy.
Brandon Vera i think will beat Mir, and there by get his shot.. Anybody who thinks Vera wouldn;t stand a chance for the title is going to be really surprised when he beats ether Syliva or Monson. And truth be told he would have an easier time with Syliva like Mir did. I could see Vera tapping Syliva in a arm bar. Where Jeff Monson knows submissions, and would be a tougher ground fight.
Only other fight i am excited to see is Mike Bisping fight.. He is my pick for a star of the future in the LHW division.

Dude like i said my personal belief, nothing else..
Plus after watching GSP on UF4 i hope he gets KOed because the man was there to scout other fighters he might have to face if he beat Hughes.. People bag on Rich Franklin for not wanting to train people, and scouting the fighters on UF4, yet GSP who was the fucking trainer was doing the same shit. So fuck GSP, and i am going to enjoy watching Matt Hughes beat him..

Yep KOTT you're right, even though his last two fights, Gracie, and Penn were both TKO on strikes.
What i should have said was Hughes over GSP on a submission... Ummm maybe an Armbar like the last time they fought.
But the question is, is GSP going to show this time, or is he mystery injured again?.. I heard BJ Penn, or Shonnie Carter would be glad to take his place again..

Well we will just have to agree to disagree on the GSP Vs Hughes fight, KOTT. We agree on the rest of the card, and i am very happy to have another person who agrees about Brandon Vera being a future star of the UFC HW divison.
Personally i think it will be a good fight, between GSP and Hughes, and may the better man win. Because after Matt Serra win the UF4 this Sat, he will get his shot at one of them, and i am pulling for my NY Italian to take it away..

Hughes will smash that canadian but I'm expecting a good fight.
I hate Sylvia with a passion, Monson will dominate this queer on the ground.
Brandon Vera will loose this fight, Mir is too experienced and he is more prepared for this fight than his last.
My niggah from Indianapolis is going to get that title fight.

I think he means he fears for Vera's life now that Aleksander is coming over to the UFC.

Yeah I hate Sylvia too, but I'm having my doubts that Monson will be able to take him down, with the size advantage and the fact that one thing Sylvia does seem to have going for him is good take down defense. Oh well, we'll see this Saturday, I will be rooting for Monson though.

i doubt mir will be able to submit vera, whose a competition submission grappler himself.
and I pick Jake Shields as the heavy favorite over karo parsyan. Shields is a stud after winning the ROTR tournament.

I dunno, Parysian is quite studly himself, but that should be a good fight. I'm looking forward to the undercard here.
I really don't think Monson can get in close enough to Sylvia, but I will say if Sylvia goes to his back the fight is over.

do you know who jake shields is?
i'm surprised so many people give karo the edge. Jake's been the hottest free agent the past year.
I guess it's hard for people who don't follow events outside of the UFC. ROTR's a small org but they've always managed to snag top rated competition.
Shields is only one of two fighter to beat the dangerous akira kikuchi. he's fought and done very well against the best SHOOTO has to offer. Karos good but his wins have all come against decent but not spectacular fighters. Considering his stock really rose after his win over Diaz. Beating Lytle and Serra in the manner he did really wasn't all that impressive.
I just saw the gambling lines and i'm placing $300 on Shields. We'll wait and see i guess.

Dude if Hughes had kicked him twice in the nuts I'd be saying the same thing about Hughes, and that he did it to keep his title... If GSP really couldn't control two almost back to back kicks, then i truly feel sorry for him....
Brandon Vera proved why he deserves his title shot at Syilva..
Tim Syliva is slowly killing the UFC HW division, and i am one of his biggest supporters normally.. But fuck Tim lately...

I CALL SHENANIGANS ON THAT FROG!
Oh well who gives a fuck i am on to the next fights... Tito Vs Chuck...
Plus i know Matt Serra will not win, but i am excited to finally see him get a title shot, so i am looking forward to Serra Vs GSP for the title..
Brandon Vera i hope gets his shot to soon, because i think if Monson had been a little bigger he would have beat Tim. So the 6ft3 Vera who is schooled in jujitsu is going to have an easier time working Syliva on the ground.. Plus Vera has a nasty stand up game as well, so i see Tim getting dominated in that fight from the jump..
But who wants to bet they are going to make Vera fight Rashad Evans first, and that winner will get his chance... Even though i can bet you 20$ if Mir had won, he'd get the next HW title shot.
