Rye cake fruiting
    #616945 - 04/24/02 02:20 AM (14 years, 10 months ago)

Is it possible to fruit a fully colonized rye berry cake a la 'PF tek' or does it have to be cased? If no casing is required and the PF tek is not suitable, what is the simplest method for fruiting? Thanks to all!!

You can fruit them PF style. That's how i do it usually. However i think PF cakes are more suitable to fruit that way. I just have been using rye grain because i can't find verm where i live.

more surface area = more shrooms
crumble it and put it in a tray or something....if you dont want to case it treat it like a cake....in my limited exp. i have found that casing is very benificial and increases yields noticibly. casing is very easy....and very worth it

"more surface area = more shrooms" ?
Define surface area. If it's amount of mycelia exposed to
the elements, then, casing = less surface area.
I agree that a simple casing is the way to go. Because it
keeps the mycelia protected, and concentrates the mushrooms
to grow up, rather than out to the sides.
