beer!!!better then honey or malt extract growth?
    #616915 - 04/24/02 08:41 AM (20 years, 5 months ago)

I have used powders that make a liquid for liquid innoculation as well as the honey tek and dextrose they all work but also take a bit of work to pull off.Beer fresh or flat has been said to work just as good if not better is this true (yes) but how good is my ? what kind of beer would be best to do this? (dark beer or light beer) would ale or malt liquor be better? -thanks- one more thing how does the alcohol effect the mycelium growth if bad would non alcoholic beer be better and if good well then great?

I wondered the same thing. But for sure, you would have to let the beer go flat & allow the alcohol content to evaporate. Maybe, I will try it, LOL. When I saw your post, thought maybe you had tried it & were posting the results. SixTango - out

I once tried beer as an agar ingredient but it must have contained some heavy duty preservatives because the agar would not grow a thing.

I do a bit of home brewing, before you ferment beer, you have wort
your better of useing wort, then beer, wort already has no bubbles or alc content.

all that's in wort is water, malt and hops(barley in some types). but the hops are quite acidic, and wouldn't favor mycelim, so why not just use some malt. And instead of keeping it a liquid, why not add some agar, to gel it up make it easier to work with........oh wait a second....

ah yes and all cheap beer, i hesitate to even call it beer (bud, coors, natty) is loaded with presevitives, which is one of the reasons it sucks, and only a swine would drink such garbage

Please see my thread posted April 24 about using Kellogg's All-Bran cereal to create a liquid substrate. You won't be disappointed, and you don't have to go to a home-brew store or order anything off the Internet!

What kind of beer did u use francisco? And what volume did u make from it?
I have access to tons of free draft but it's canadian draft and everyone knows that it's much stronger (and better) than american. I wonder if the higher alchohol content will make a difference in the outcome

wouldnt the alchol in the beer oxidise to acetic acid (vinigar).
Which wouldnt do shrooms much good.
