Aspergillus?
    #616681 - 04/23/02 08:49 PM (14 years, 7 months ago)

I did an experiment with some corn cob a little bit ago. One of the jars took and then towards the end it started to show signs of contamination. The healthy mycellium looked like it had really small black dots all over(maybe 5%), not all over. I took some of the cob pices and tossed them into a sterilized jar of corn syrup and water. The mycellium took off growing and after 5 days there id about 60% colonization. Now my question is, could all of those black dots be a form of Aspergillus? If it is can I still use the culture or will the aspergillus form toxins?

Check out my other posts.
Peace,
Fronty McNiggs

Please listen. It costs so little to create a healthy culture. If it is aspergillus, you could be playing with your life. The art of shroomery entails patience;so, go for the pure white gold!

Several forms of aspergillus are fairly nasty pathogens that you want to avoid. One of them, Aspergillus Niger, is shown below:

Thanx for the replies. The picture that you gave me Seus is awsome but fortunatley the black dots in your picture(Aspergillus) do not resemble those in my culture. My dots are much much smaller like those you would find in a spore syringe. If you knlow what it might be just respond on back.

Peace,
Fronty

Hey Seuss, what is the magnification on that pic? Looks somewhat like a microscopic view of aspergillus.
