Curious Jar...Opinions please?
    #6165099 - 10/13/06 09:30 AM (17 years, 5 months ago)

Greetings all;

A girl I know has one strange jar thats sticking out among the others she has done.

Two things to comment on - firstly, the odd 'growth' - despite the quality of the picture, it looks nothing like any pins that she's seen before.

Secondly, there is a gap in the colonization (as noted by the sharpie outline). This has been here for a while now. The sharpie was used to measure any continued development onto this 'foggy' area. If I had to harbor a guess, it would be that maybe not all of the Lysol or bleach was throughly washed from the jars prior to sterilization / inoculation.

If the jar ceases to colonize the foggy area within a few days, I think she will pop them out of the jar, and cut the area around the 'foggy' uncolonized area and attempt to case it.

Let me know what you think. She has provided me with pictures, but I can't figure out how to imbed them in this post. Check my Gallery and they are there.

Those psilocybes look to be in pain.

There is no discoloration in the foggy area, that is the only reason I dint think its contaminated, but I'm no expert by any stretch. It just seems like the mycelium is reluctant to pick up that area for whatever reason.
I think she should just try a miniature casing in a small Tupperware container and see what happens.

I'm still lost on what the growth is. It seems like if it were more well formed than it is, it could be a giant pin, but it just appears to be some amorphous blob.

It's contaminated with mold. Toss it out. There is no saving that.

The growth is actually about a eighth inch thick or so, I doubt its mycopiss...I know its hard to tell from her pix.

I'll just tell her to toss it out tho, no point in risking it.
Thanks a lot for the info, you've all been helpful.
