My idea of the "American Dream" is having the opportunity to take the initiative to become and do whatever it is you desire.

Anyone can do anything if they put their mind to it, work hard, and make the right choices to get on the correct path.

Family owned and operated business that makes enough to send kids to collage and afford a comfortable retirement. To work for myself.

My "American Dream" is to have a happy life, enjoy my family & friends, have a good time along the way & of course, no regrets. I want to just be able to enjoy shit & not worry... that would be fuckin nice.

To me, the American Dream...the TRUE American dream is freedom; living the life you want to live, founding fathers stuff. The reason our country was formed to begin with. The dream had been twisted around to mean all sorts of fucked up shit....but I go by the original, and I'm dedicating my life to the struggle to bring the old ideals back, to straighten America out. We may not win, but fuck it...I'm fighting anyway!

I agree wholeheartedly with Dark_Star. I think the real American dream is the idea of freedom and personal responsibility that this country was founded on. I don't personally think it's a material thing at all, if you're talking about a material 'American Dream', well... you'd have to be asleep to believe it.

--------------------
The story goes, or the way that I was told
There was a king that always felt too high and then he fell too low
And so he called all the wise men to the hall
And begged them for a gift to end the rises and the falls
But here’s the thing, they came back with a ring
It was simple and was plainly unbefitting of a king
Engraved in black, it had no front or back
But there were words around the band that said
Just know: This Too Shall Pass

i agree with dark star too. my american dream is complete freedom. but it seems as if in general the american dream is quite materialistic. owning a big fancy house, fancy car, eat at fancy restraunts, etc.

what do you think are some crucial elements in obtaining the american dream in general? what are some crucial elements in obtaining your american dream (freedom)? the second question baffles me.

Nowadays it means who can allocate the most useless, overexpensive items. Hummers, cell phones, clothing, large television screens.

the American Dream? Well in form it is easy. CASINOS. people hand you money and you hand them nothing. they pay for hope. they pay for a chance to try and sneak one by probability. no goods, not even a service. just a silent agreement. I take youy money now or I take you money later. and no matter how smart or shrewd they think they are. you always win because no amount of money overcomes statistics.

In idea I agree with Dark Star. The American dream is quite simply, whatever the original goal that the founding fathers had. I can't speak for john jay or franklin or any of them, but from all the history i have had pumped up my ass over the years. I would say that it has to do with freedom, self reliance, and responsibility.
