ok, once again since I posted this in the wrong area before.

So... my brothers giflrfiends 3rd cousin, who is growing (Mazatapec) shatake mushrooms in jars using vermaculite and BRF is a little paranoid. He gave me a pic to post.

Is this stuff mycylium, or cobwebmold? It doesnt look bright white as it should, more of a grayish color. It is however growing in all 8 jars at the innoc sites. Its kinda fuzzy, looks like short hairs all over reaching outward toward the uncolonized areas. Help me please!

Its kind of hard to tell but I'd say that was mycelium and not contam. It doesn't look like the healthiest mycelium I've ever seen, but it does look like mycelium :wink:

What can cause it to be healthy or unhealthy (for next time he makes some jars)? Didnt know mycelium health was an issue. Tempiture? hes not incubating them at all so their anywhere from 70 - 85 degrees. If he were to start incubating them, would it improve its health? What else? Should he put them in a completely dark area, or an area thats dark, but some light gets to them (I've read both)? Thank you for your comments everyone. : ^D

not very fast, the pic is from day 7 (after innoc) and he first saw signs of growth after 3 or 4 days.
Someone told me if it doubled in size overnight it was definetly cobweb, but it hasnt, it got noticibally larger in one day though. All his jars have the same looking stuff (more grey then white) so it better not be cobweb!
