My picks for the top 5 NFL running backs
    #6163665 - 10/12/06 08:05 PM (17 years, 3 months ago)

1) Walter Payton-Chicago Bears Not because he passed away, But because quite simply he was great Runner And my oppinion still holds the nfl mark for most yards running from the line of scrimage. If you took careers from beginning to end he did it in fewer years then the im gonna run till arthritas completly cripples me Emitt Smith did, And i rated him higher then Jim Brown simply because i feel he was better then Jim Brown.

2)Eric Dickerson-Los Angeles Rams Very gifted back and still holds the single season rushing mark with 2,105 yards. This was a hard chose between Dickerson and Barry Sanders, But ill give the spot to Eric Dickerson Based on The unbroken single season mark thats still unbroken.

3)Barry Sanders-Detroit Lions The human highlight reel could have easily been 1 or 2 on this list, A Great runner that was a great joy to watch, Also in alite group with Dickerson For going over 2,000 yards in a single season.

4)Earl Campbell-Houston Oilers The hardest hitting back to ever put on a pair of cleets, Ran over Jack Lambert the great linebacker for the steelers One on One,, Held the mark for the AFC in rushing a number of years in the late 70s and early 80s..
I had Oiler season tickets for Earls first 3 yrs so i saw his power in person, he allmost passed OJ`s record of 2003 yrds in a season but the Oilers rested him in the final game in '78 for the playoff game with the Steelers, he would have passed OJ if he had played in the final game :yesnod:

5)O.J Simpson-Buffalo Bills I know, I know,, But regardless of what he may or may not have done other wise, he was a great running back, Setting the latter to be broken by Dickerson of 2003 yards in a single season, only 3 other backs have ever broken it since,, Dickerson, Sanders, Lewis....

Theres great backs that were not mentioned here, so tell me and everyone here what your list looks like...
This is one of Big Earls jerseys when he played for my beloved Longhorns...he never wore it because this dude stold it and i bought it from him for $60
I met Big Earl and talked to him on sixth street in Austin about 8 yrs back at a burger place
He looked kinda small but his legs were enormous

Hook Em Horns :smirk:

damnit, i was about to say "good job, you spelled all their names correctly" but i think its "campbell" anyways, it doesnt matter. But yeah, I think Sanders was the best ever. He ran behind a real shitty line and had the most amazing moves ever. He could have easily of played 4 more years and broke just about every rushing record. Im glad you didnt say Emmitt Smith. He is the most overrated RB of all time. He ran behind the best line football has ever seen for many years. I dont even think emmitt would make my top 10.

Now that the Oilers are the Titans and your sweet Texas' Vince Young is their quarterback you should be rooting for the Titans.

no he isnt dude and he probably only ranks 8th in a top ten pick
Gale Sayers would be my 6th pick
Fuck Jim Browns gotta be 7th without a doubt
Franco Harris is my 8th pick because of 4 Superbowl wins
Emitt is probably the 9th pick in my book

thanks. someone else who realizes that an amazing line is better than having an amazing RB. You cant really argue against that Dallas had the best line of all time when Emmitt was there. You dont see all that many highlights of Emmitt because he didnt make that many amazing moves. He just followed the fatasses in front of him who provided him holes bigger than Roseanne Barr's........mouth. If anything, Emmitt was consistent and reliable, not amazing.

yeah i think he was like 5'9''.. he wasnt one of the best ever because he had moves.. tough, smart running.. ill admit.. he always had nice holes.. but still.. he was a GREAT patient running back. GREAT yards after contact also.
