Spore Print Harvesting
    #616075 - 04/23/02 05:32 AM (21 years, 5 months ago)

When do you guys cut off a cap to make a spore print? How long after the cap opens do you harvest a cap for spore print purposes? My spore prints have been lighter then I have received from others, thanks.

it's time to cut those caps off when they've fully openned. you can tell this by when the gills, seperate from the stem, or as soon as the caps <> to turn inside out. (or folds up)
hope this helps ya. good luck

are spores ready before the cap opens? Could I take closed caps and cut them open in a controlled environment to further reduce contaminents getting on the print?
Or is this not much of a problem?

I grow several varieties at a time, and some seem to drop the spores quicker than others. Or it could just be a difference between flushes - I don't keep the greatest records. Usually, the first cap that opens has at least a couple shorter shrooms around it, so I sometimes watch until I see the first sign of spores dropping, and clip that one and whichever others are nearly as mature. I dont' cut them all at one time, unless I'm going to be gone for hours - then I just harvest. If I'm at home, I watch as they mature and cut a little batch every 4-5 hours or so.

I don't really know anyone who grows mushrooms. I just come here for fun.

These thread necros could be prevented if new members didn't have access to post in dead threads.  It's no wonder why all of the bullshit info from 20 years ago keeps getting resurrected.

Once someone necro posts a bunch seem to follow…I’m not saying there’s a conspiracy but random people suddenly start bumping necro threads once one does lol.
