1969: Buckley vs Chomsky. If only I'd been alive to live through such civility.

I'm in love with these clips:

Two of my brilliant idols going at it. It's broken into two parts. I think there's supposed to be a 3rd section, but I can't find it on GooTube. I have no idea where it's from.
What's so fucking unreal is how different this is from anything currently on television. Anyone pitching a political talk show of this gentility would immediately get laughed out of every commercial network and maybe even PBS. Not that I can really complain. I love capitalist media, and wouldn't want any sort of original creation to come from any other source. That said, these vids really are my kinda shit.
It starts off in an interesting way. Chomsky comes out pretty strong, sorta trying to pick away at Buckley piece by piece. Buckley has amazing control, and finally delivers a blow to Chomsky (about 5:00 on the 2nd clip) that seems shut him up. Buckley definitely has some sort of given advantage, as I think it's his show. He also has a superior chair.
Watch, enjoy, try to stay awake.

This is the first time I've actually seen Buckley speak. This is definitely a treat to see two brilliant minds go head to head.

You might be surprised. My mom used to tell me that his affect was a sure sign of his dishonesty. But I later heard that it was just cause he learned English at a late age.

He hasn't always been able to keep such a cool demeanor. Apparently, in 1968, on national TV, Vidal Gore called him a cryptofascist, and he responded by calling him an obnoxious queer(I think that was the term he used). My dad considers it one of the great moments in television history.

"May I complete a sentence?" asks Chomsky at about 7:32 in the second clip. That pretty much sums it up...
On a side note, forgive my ignorance, but who's this Buckley character? He sure looks like he has some issues.
