Seat-belt charge winds up with marijuana arrest
Sometimes it pays to wear your seat belt.
A Michigan City man and a Michigan City teen were arrested on separate charges Tuesday evening after being pulled over for the driver not wearing his seat belt.
According to a Michigan City Police report, William Campion II, 20, and a 17-year-old boy were pulled over by an officer whose drug-sniffing dog indicated there were drugs in the car.
Campion, the driver, reportedly had no identification on him and police found drug paraphernalia in the car.
Police said the 17-year-old had a baggie of marijuana, for which he was charged with possession, a Class A misdemeanor.
Police said they also found two guns in the car for which Campion did not have a permit. One of the guns, a 9 mm rifle, was found to be stolen from Gary.
Campion was charged with possession of stolen property, a Class # felony, and possession of a handgun without a permit, a Class A misdemeanor.

I fucking despise seat belt laws!
while i do think that 8 out of 10 or so times (pulled those figures out my ass) a belt will save lives, they still sometimes endanger your life, don't help, or are just pointless and not comfortable.
i can see mandatory LAWs for young kids (whom cant be expected to weigh out the possible risk of wearing or not wearing the belt)
but to make it ILLEGAL for an ADULT to make the choice with his/her own life is very overbearing
is it all possible for someone NOT wearing a seat belt to endanger or hurt somebody else?
i don't think so.
bullshit laws
-------------------- -------------------------------- " If the sky were to suddenly open up there would be no law. There would be no rule. There would only be you and your memories... the choices you've made, and the people you've touched. If this world were to end there would only be you and him and no-one else. " .............. "MAN! You know there aint no such thing as left over crack!"

I would have to respectfully Disagree, there, Schwip. As long as my tax dollars are being used to put back together accident victims, or bury the dead. Not to mention the emotional toll. If you sign a waiver that you are entirely responsible for ALL costs incurred( court, hospital, property ), and show proof that you can readily cover those costs, then by all means.....Sign a DNR as well. But the fact is, as you admitted, seatbelts DO save lives. And we spend WAY too much tax money on the welfare stupidity of others. My .02 Peace
