Dessicant/Drying

A foaf wants to know what is the best kind of dessicant to use for drynig and making little packets to go in the bags when storing? A foaf heard calcium chloride is good but he's not sure if you can dry it out in the oven for re-use. Also he read not to let it touch the shroomz, so packets are out. So whats the best re-useable dessicant that he can make the little packets out of that will be in the bag with the shroomz. A foaf is going to use this in the drying chamber too.

Well,

A little birdy told me that silica gel crystals that are used to dry out flowers are the way to go.
They are blue when dry....and turn pink when they are wet.
Then you put them into the oven and dry them out.....and they turn blue again.

You can get these flower drying crystals at craft stores, and some florist shops.
Price was $7.89 for 48 oz.'s

Coo, thanks Roadkill (from a foaf). Thats probably one of the more expensive types, right? They're all fairly cheap though. A foaf has never dealt with the stuff, 3 Lbs is a lot right? Like a big bag?

Be sure to fan dry them for 24 hours or so first. My friend has lost more than one batch of good fruit to rot because the fan drying was skipped and the dessicant was too slow for the amount of fruit my friend tried to dry at once.

Oh of course. For a fan drying chamber a foaf was thinking a cardboard box with a fan in it and an exit for the air in such a place that it would curculate through the whole box. Mabey a layer of dessicant in there too. Sound good?

Take a box fan, put some type of spacer under it so the air will flow freely, add a piece of screen and there you go.
