get one of those rectangle batteries.. rip out the thing you plug the 2 holes into(w/ the wires too) from something cheap .. then splice away

Probably the same way you did in fourth grade with a flashlight bulb and a AA.

since most electronics are a 12 volt system, sure, you can also find 5 volt fans but isnt that gonna be expensive, just get a small wall transformer

If you wire up eight 1.5V batteries in a series (+'s to -'s) you get 12V which is what most fans run on.

the one i has runs at all different voltage settings with the universal wall adapter i have.. only thing that changes is the speed.. more power = faster fan. as far as splicing it.. it's just like those light bulbs in 5th grade.. cut the wires.. put one on one side of the battery.. the other on the other side.. What about a car battery? Just out of curiosity...
I mean at what point does more power become too much power lol.

the red wire from the fan connects to the + side of the battry, the black wire goes to the - side of the battery... the fan will start to spin.... get a battery holder, or a 9V adaptor... then put a switch on one if the wires, maybe even a vary'ing speed control switch...
 or
cut that end off, and then connect the wires directly... the switch disconnects the wires on the inside, so no power goes to the fan, the fan stopps spinning. The speed control will be an awesome touch... just go to radio shack, they will tell you how to do it..

a car battery will work, as will any 12V DC battery.
you could also get 2 of those block shaped 6V batteries and wire them + to -

Why do you need to run a fan on batteries anyway? You know you can just buy 120 volt fans that look like computer fans from many electronics places right?
Or use the wall transformer like Prisoner suggested.
Or if you only need it to run for a short period most batteries like you see in small remotes or for your CMOS are 3 volts and stack together really well and are compact. Put four of those on top of each other and you've got 12 volts.

i dont think so, i use 12V car batteries all of the time independant of my car, and all in all... i dont think that the amperage would fry it, i mean a fan dosent draw that much amperage...
