The time I killed my friend's cat

One time, a handful of moons ago, a couple, now married, wanted to go to India to study Yoga. They had two cats and were in a real tight spot because they couldn't find a home for them for the summer. I had a nice apartment and I like cats though I'm a little too transient to have my own so, sweet! I get to have a couple cats for a while. My friends are very appreciative that I stepped up to the bat (it was my pleasure, really).
As time goes by, cat B spends more and more time away from home, until she hasn't been seen for about two weeks. Hmmm.. A friend finds her outside a restaurant where he works, though, and brings her home. Yay, she's back. She hangs for a few days, then takes off. She never comes back. We move out of the apartment.
I put up some posters, one response, but it's a dead end. I put up some more posters. Summer comes and goes. My friends are very upset. In fact, technically we probably not friends anymore. Since their return they've relocated to the opposite end of the continent. Cat A is now in the hands of one of their relatives. I got an email a while ago to the effect of "what the fuck? Where's the cat?"
I mean I have to emphasize how much they miss their cat. Like, they really really really really love that kitty. And they really want it back. They're just broken to pieces over this whole thing, and well, I guess they blame me. I have to chuckle a little when I think about it, but man.. the amount of emotional energy tied up in this little "thing" this .. "cat" is like a nuclear explosion or something! It's pretty wild.

Doesn't sound like you killed it, it just ran away. It must be sad for them tho, it'll be hard for me the day one of my cats die. Still, they're immature if they can't see that it's not your doing - unless you actually did do something, but it doesn't sound like it.

They need to get over this and move on. They left the cat and took the risk.

One thing though, a cat doesn't usually recognize its home unless its forced to stay indoors for awhile, and sense this was a new home for the cat, it didn't register in its mind that this is the place to come back too, like I said, if you want to make it an indoor/outdoor cat you need to keep it strictly indoors for a couple months.

Yeah, that doesn't seem like your fault at all.

try the house they used to live in. Maybe the cat found it's way back over there.
-------------------- And I said, I don't care if they lay me off either, because I told, I told Bill that if they move my desk one more time, then, then I'm, I'm quitting, I'm going to quit. And, and I told Don too, because they've moved my desk ...four times already this year and I used to be over by the window and I could see the squirrels, and they were merry, but then, they switched from the Swingline to the Boston stapler, but I kept my Swingline stapler because it didn't bind up as much and I kept the staples for the Swingline stapler and its not okay because if they take my stapler then I'll set the building on fire.
