Spent the day down the Flerieu With the SAB crew Hagakure and El duder and had a very successfull day i got a haul of 144 all up, some very nice specimens quite large and meaty.I guestimate the total haul to be anywhere between 500-600ish. I took a few photos like two lol before my batteries died and i then realised i bought the wrong ones haha... i will post what i did take soon.
Happy Hunting

Hi All
Just getting into the scene. A few questions.
1. Why are you guys collecting subs and not Animitas? I thought they were good too? 2. In Adelaide, there has been frost. Is this better or worse for mushrooms? 3. Can you get me started on a few locations in or near Adelaide.
Good to get the first post out of the way. 3. W

nice work yt! good to hear youre having so much luck down south. we only got a few from the SE last hunt, still yet to upload the photos.
Latebloomer, hi and welcome to the shroomery. To answer your questions
1 - actually some of us do collect Amanita muscarias. However they recquire preparation as they can be poisonous if they are not prepared properly. People don't usually collect/eat them because psilocybin containing mushrooms have much more favourable effects. Im assuming this though as I havent tried them (muscarias).
2 - I think frost is bad, but it shouldnt effect things too much. It is the lack of rain that has slowed down fruitings immensly.
3 - Sorry, but us shroomers work hard to find out patches and don't just like to give them away. Though with a bit of research on the internet you will be able to find out locations - J.B Cleland first discovered subs very close to Adelaide. Or you can go through all the pages in this thread I reckon a location or two might have been dropped somewhere.
you will have to do a bit of research so you know the basic identifiable characteristics of subs such as stem, cap, gills, flesh and sporeprint. good luck

Was checking BOM last nite and looks like some rain hopefully end of week for a few days... i really hope so we need it. Down the Flerieu was a little bit dry the 1st few places we checked but the last patch was very green and moist very suprising. Latebloomer most of us do collect Amanitas usually at the start of the season very early winter/ late autumn pity i didnt have my camera then or i would have taken some awesome photos. Usually every patch i have been to/ go to for subs there are Amanitas near by but getting into winter u start to see alot less.
Here are the few photos i did take down the Coast

Subs seem to like pine forest in Australia, i wonder if in nz they'd grow in areas where there were Aucklandaii?, even more so in native bush...

the SE
from saturday, good hunt although there werent many subs. the lack of rain is evident in these photos. WA isnt the only state no getting rain, though you guys probably need some the most

Latebloomer just check the adelaide hills or even adelaidian suburbs, preferably places with prolific rainfall patterns. Make sure your checking in the right substrates.

pm-ed you psilo_cybin. Didn't have much luck last week. Went towards the Lofty area and despite seeing a few pins and unharvestable mature we got nothing except absolutely fucking drenched. Went undercover and waited over and hour but the rain didnt stop so we had walk about 30-40 mins to the bus stop getting saturated all the way. Next time I think I need some kind of waterproof gear so I can continue to hunt in these hardcore shrooming conditions. I didnt keep any of my photos they weren't worth it, but you can see OOISI's last photos which were from that hunt. btw - what happened to all the SA shroomers? I remember seeing a lot more posting here last year, not that there is any lack of shroomers in the field though!

Tuesday 18th July Went for a hunt out into the Northern Area, hadnt been out for over 4 weeks to that certain area but was very suprised with the recent cold weather & rain found an excellant haul of 1100 subs The patches were still very moist and wet and still producing strong flushes which shall hopefully continue until the end of August. Also hoping to make it down South soon to check the situation out down there I have alot of pics from yesterdays hunt VERY image heavy until i figure out how to thumbnail lol enjoy

All the specimens i looked at of the SA subs were quite different to the Victorian subs and subs from the rest of Australia and New Zealand. Different as in more different than other subs are from Ps.cyanescens.
